can .22 air rifles fire BB's?

I recently heard a rumor that .22 air rifles can fire standard BB's. Anyone know whether that is true?

uh... yeah... wrong caliber, BBs are .177, wrong firing mechanism, there's no powder charges in BBs last time i checked, and last, why the heck would you want to do this?

there's no powder charges in air rifles hence the name AIR rifles. I wanted to use it in airsoft if it worked

if it's smaller than a .22 than it could fire (depends on air seal and shit, but basically if it fits out the barrel it might shoot)...but not accurately at all and if your thinking about using it for airsoft you should take into consideration velocity.......air rifles aren't toys like airsoft guns, some of them can shoot really hot......people hunt with the higher end ones.........so probably not a good idea.

like theoretically you could do it, and shoot other stupid things that are smaller than .22 out of it too.......but it'll probably fuck up the gun or at least the barrel and isn't a great idea.......you probably could do it but there's no good reason to.

yeah, thanks for that, i'll probably just use one of my mates or an old gun to try it. I realise that they could really do damage but originally we were planning on doing airsoft with pellets.

You will deffo fuck up the rifling in the barrel doing that. If it's a break barrel air rifle that was designed to fire lead pellets thats all you should fire from it. Likewise if it was meant to fire a round that uses a firing pin striking a percussion cap... Common sense should take you the rest of the way from here.
