i like my shitty little "survival" knife i got at harbor frieght tools.....generally they are all pieces of shit but this one is made decent for the $9 or whatever i paid for it (went into great detail of why it's good and the others suck on a different thread, but basically it has a quarter tang and the blade and it's housing are welded to the top of the handle, partially filling the hollow handle.....anyways most suck but there's a few decent ones......but i'd rather have something with a solid handle, just bought it cause it was cheap, had to put my own little survival shit in there cause the kit that came with it wasn't adequate anyways.
as far as a good wilderness knife i've been looking into getting a decent fixed blade too....i narrowed it down to:
buck 119 special ($30-$35)
kabar fighting/utility knife (i want the full size one but they only have the short models available at the afb my dad is stationed at....might just get one of them when money allows, they're like $50 each)
ontario pilot surivival knife (the only thing i don't like about this is that the saw is designed to cut aircraft aluminum and not wood, and i'm not a big fan of the light tan sheath and handle wrap...but still they're like $32 on base so i'm probably gonna grab one)
gerber also makes some decent looking camp knives, i think one was called gator and the other just camper...and there's another one i liked too but forget what it's called.
o ya and everyone who's ever had one talks about how good the sog seal pups are, i want an sog seal (bigger, made with killing in mind more than just utility) but haven't been able to find one locally or for a reasonable price online (seal pups go for like $50 on base)
anyways i'm gonna actually start collecting decent knives instead of the cheapass but cool ones i used to get at the flea market so when money allows i'll probably get al or most of those listed above....but i'm back in the habit of getting drunk whenever i have money to spend then buying weapons and shit so it might be a while.
as far as camping goes, the big sheath knives are awesome... but i used to be in boy scouts and they could be little cunts about blades and such in that organization (no real rule on which knives are allowed and not allowed but douschbags love to speculate)......anyways they always encourage smaller folding knives...
of course usually the really shitty non locking ones cause they're dumb as fuck, but anyways a buck 110 or a victorinox trekker are both awesome camping knives....usually you don't need anything more than a 3.5 inch blade folder (cheap leatherman style multitool/plier combo and an axe or machete will supplement it when you do need something more).
but you can't really baton wood or any of that fun shit with a folder (well you can but it's not a great idea since they can break easier than a fixed blade) plus the bigger fixed bladed knives look cooler, easier to clean and shit and are just overall simpler......
so ya i'm done rambling about knives, holy shit.
