Thread: Raise standards for new members?

    Raise standards for new members?

I have noticed that many people have joined ACB, but an alarmingly high percentage of them aren't exactly active. And a lot of them just post a few times and never come back, usually because they got bored or got flamed by other members. Something progressive has to be done!

So I think that this site should raise the bar for people signing up. Before they can even be allowed to get to post or whatever, they first have to make an essay that tells what they are doing here and what they will contribute to. Then current members will carefully analyse it and vote on whether they can be allowed to have an account. (kind of like the introductions forum, but you actually decide someones fate). This will make sure that a new member isn't a noob or flame-worthy. Also if one newcomer doesn't add something new soon enough, we can revoke their account and get rid of it.

Doing this will surely reduce the amount of space wasted by short-lived members which have already plaqued this site. Remember people, you joined this site for a reason, and if it involves reading blogs while giving no good feedback whatsoever, then you don't deserve to be in here.

Do you agree with this? There is a poll here, but you can also post your opinions.

It's a good idea, but that would involve careful analyzation of each and every essay, no doubt we would encounter much of the squid effect, and we would discuss amongst ourselves whether or not to grant entry. There are too many accounts made for this idea to be effective, plus some people are lazy, and will just be like fuck it etc.

That's true, but having to write an essay will discourage a lot of people from joining. I mean, people these days join a website so easily, because all they have to do is put in some stuff like names and passwords and stuff. But if idea is put into place, then everyone except smart individuals would be like "ohhh fuck, I gotta do a friggin homework assignment, fuck that shit". So doing this will be a great deterent of joining members who are complete fuckwads. Kind of helps the mods you know?

I can't really see that working in a positive manner.

It's always the new members that have big opinions of themselves that post these threads.

I think it would cut down on all the bullshit from people that just come here for no reason/to annoy ACB.........as long as i dont have to write one im cool with it........i suck at essays and i get enough of them at school......so yeah...

essays could get annoying to read.
a questionere would prolly be easiest on voters.

i wouldnt vote though. i def havent been here long enough for my opinion to count for anything.
