Speaking of black powder being easier to make, i was wondering where people obtained their KNO3 to use for the mixture. I believe it is used in stump remover, but when i went to home depot or other gardening stores i wasn't able to find any of it.

I can get charcoal easily from burning wood into the black chalky stuff, i haven't tried looking for sulfur yet, but i heard it's in medical supplies. I saw in some youtube videos that you can substitute sugar for sulfur, the explosion sort of worked but it was a very small amount and i don't really know how much faster or slower the explosion was compared to using actual sulfur.

KNO3 is in some fertilizers as well as in stump removers. Its easiest just to buy pure stuff off the internet. Just to help you out though try also searching for saltpeter also.

to inform the poster of this thread...Dont just try to compare different explosive compounds without having something in mind. different compounds are better for different jobs. Black powder is pretty much an obsolete compound. Its main use is pretty much for muzzle loading black powder rifles. Flash powder is good for really flashy explosions where as the acetone peroxide that was mention is a general explosive that is a good thing for beginners to start with.

All 3 can be found in the Wal-Mart garden center, heh
sulfur comes in pure form for like 5$- 1 pound bag
i buy my kno3 ff ebay for 20$-10 pound bag
bag of charcoal for 3$

If you cant handle getting the materials, please don't be putting them together.
