i put that there just to clear things up. this method has been done safely by shitloads of people, but consider the warning and how easy it would be to just put vodka through a still and save yourself the time.

To clear shit up:
ETHANOL, which is also known as moonshine, is PERFECTLY SAFE.
METHANOL, which is wood alchohol, can make you blind at 10 ml and dead at 100ml.

For the people who like to do things the real way:

How To Make Moonshine

Ethanol or Moonshine, also called ethyl alcohol, pure alcohol, grain alcohol, or drinking alcohol, is a volatile, flammable, colorless liquid. It is a psychoactive drug, best known as the type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages and in modern thermometers. Ethanol is one of the oldest recreational drugs. Making this for drinking purposes is illegal in the U.S in most if not all countries worthy to be named.

Step 1
You will need 25 pounds of cornmeal, 100 pounds of sugar, 100 gallons of water and 6 ounces of yeast. You'll also need charcoal, a few large pots, a large pressure cooker and a coiled copper pipe, 1 -1 and 1/4 inches long.
Step 2
heat water on the stove until it reaches a boil.
Step 3
Add this water to cornmeal. This mixture is known as the mash.
Step 4
Cool down the mash until it is warm to the touch.
Step 5
Add sugar and yeast to the warm mash.
Step 6
Set the mash aside and allow it to ferment for 4 to 5 days. The mash is ready when it stops bubbling. At this stage, the mash is known as sour mash or beer.
Step 7
Put the sour mash into the pressure cooker and carefully bring it up to 78 degrees celsius (173 degrees Fahrenheit) , the temperature at which the alcohol content of the mixture rises to the surface.
Step 8
Use a coiled copper pipe, passed through cold water, to trap vaporized alcohol in a separate vessel. As the vapors pass through the cold copper tubing, they condense into a liquid called moonshine.
Step 9
Filter the moonshine through charcoal to make it fit for consumption. You can also store the mash after extracting your first batch
of moonshine, and it can be used up to 6-8 times.

this can be disguised pretty well, if you bury the fermenting liquid underground, then distill it when no-one is around.

pure methanol can make you blind, which is a byproduct of this. to remove it, heat the mash to 64.7 °C or a degree or 2 above, thats the boiling point of methanol, while ethanol is about 78°C. this process should remove methanol in the mash, however not all of it will go, so to make it pure you might need to do a few times, but be aware you will also lose some ethanol as well, if you heat it too fast.
