Research- Know what you are doing and check multiple sources to ensure the synth or reaction you are trying to perform is: Acurate, reliable, safe and actually exists. When using a chemical you have not used previously check for a material safety data sheet (MSDS), they're easy to find online.

2. Gear/Equipment- When handling explosives or any chemical for that matter there are several safety devices that are absolutly essential:
-Flame retardent clothing, Most importantly a top/shirt.
-Gloves. These will vary depending on what materials you are handling, When reading an MSDS always check to see if glove types are specified- For example you do not want to be wearing a cheap pair of latex gloves if you happen to spill Sulfuric Acid on yourself.
Goggles/Eye protection. This is an absolute must for any application involving any explosives or chemicals. Your eyes are very easy to damage and very hard to repair so thats fairly self explanatory.
Masks/Respirators. When mixing up some humble BP or thermite yo should really be wearing a dust mask so as to prevent the inhalation of any small particles. As for anything that produces fumes it is highly recomended that your wear at least a spray painters half mask if not a fully NBC rated gas mask, fumes from strong acids can severely damage your respiratory system.
Fire Extinguisher/Blanket You can all figure that one out.
There are other items out there that will enhance your safety but those are the essential.

3. Environment- Make sure your work environment is clean and clear of unnescessary clutter, this will make your work more productive and there will be less chance of spillages and breakages. Make sure it is well ventilated but do not use an exhaust fan, if possible a fume hood is an excellent tool to use. Ensure you have adaquate lighting and good visibility. One final concern is actual location, It is far safer to perform any synth or reaction away from your house or valued possessions as fire spreads quickly.

4. Pre-Preparation and Storage- Make sure to double check each MSDS to be absolutly certain of the storage procedure of each material. Measure out materials before you perform a reaction to increase productivity and remove unnescessary reactants from the work area as this increases hazard risks. Avoid storing any explosive materials, try to make them as you use them.

5. Tools- make sure you are using each tool for it's intended purpose, or if you are improvising then make sure it's accecptable e.g. makeshift ball mill with a power drill and plastic jar. Electronic thermometers and scales are highly recomended as well.

6. Detonation/Ignition- Just be far away enough and don't do it in your garage. Never place potential shrapnel between yourself and your explosive, thats just common sense.

7. Nuetralisation- When working with acidic or basic materials it's always a good idea to have a saturated sodium hydrogen carbonate solution on hand to nuetralise spills. Sodium hydrogen carbonate is used because it can nuetralissse both acids and bases and will do so mildly to avoid amassive exothermic reaction

For those who are not familiar with the photoreceptor structure of the eye allow me to elaborate, on the inner most layer of the eye (the retina) houses some 130 million photoreceptor cells (rods & cones) and these cells are connected to the optic nerve via ganglion and bipolar cells. How does this favour evolution? Well the photoreceptor cells (rods & cones) sit behind the ganglion and bipolar cells. this means that when a light impulse travels through the eye and into the photreceptor cells it must pass the bipolar and ganglion cells then be electrochemically sent back into the bipolar and ganglions. This is what causes what is known as a 'blind spot' in that because the optic nerve is already at the back of the eye, no photoreceptors can be located there. Surely if there were some great omnipotent being that created life or dictated its progresion it would have taken a little more care with developing one of the main sensory organs. If the photoreceptor cells sat infront of the ganglion and bipolar cells they could be distributed across the whole eye and therefore no blindspot. There are many other more mainstream evolution ideas but i believe that to be one of the most condemning for creation and intelligent design.

Black Powder (BP)
75 parts potassium nitrate (KNO3)
15 parts wood charcoal
10 parts Sulfur

1- deposit charcoal and sulfur into your ball mill and run it for a couple hours (ghetto ball mill can be made with a power drill, bench vice, plastic jar, bolt, nut and lead fishing sinkers. if you cant work out how that all goes together you shouldn't be making explosives) lead media must be used as it will not spark.

2- open your mill, separate the powder mixture into a container and wash ball mill components

3- mill your potassium nitrate

4- mix the charcoal/sulfur mix with the potassium nitrate. then lightly wet the powder mixture and return to the ball mill, run it for another few hours (4-5). check the powder at regular intervals tomake sure it has not dried out, if so lightly wet and continue process.

5- remove powder mixture and let dry on newspaper or paper towels. DO NOT try and speed up the process with a hairdryer or try and put it in the oven.

Smoke Bomb
5 parts potassium nitrate
5 parts granulated sugar

***t the components together over low heat. When ***ted transfer to a casing and allow to set (insert fuse at this time also)

Flash Powder (FP)
8 parts potassium perchlorate
2 parts fine aluminium powder

simply mix the powders together in a static free container using extreme caution. the powder is quite sensitive to heat, friction and shock.

Acetone Peroxide (AP)
50 parts Acetone
30 parts 30% conc Hydrogen Peroxide
3 parts concentrated Sulfuric Acid (>70%)

1- in a glass vessel mix the Acetone and Hydrogen Peroxide then place vessel into an ice bath till temp reaches 5 degrees celsius

2- DROP BY DROP add the Sulfuric Acid to the Acetone and Hydrogen Peroxide mixture. make sure to keep below 5 degrees, this is because of the equilibrium reaction that takes place.

3- move mixture to a coolroom or refridegerator and leave over night.

4- a layer of crystals should have formed on top after 12 or so hours. filter the crystals out through filter paper or a coffee filter and sit in a cool dark place to dry

5- if intending to store do so submerged in distilled water in a container that DOES NOT have a threaded lid. AP should be stored in this manner in a ref*****rator.

Thermite
70 parts Iron Oxide
30 Parts fine aluminium powder

simply mix the two powders together. thermite is a very stable compound and takes alot of heat to ignite. reliable ignition includes Magnesium ribbon even sparklers.

Nitrocellulose (Gun Cotton)
10 part Concentrated Sulfuric acid (>90%)
10 part Concentraded Nitric Acid (>65%)
1 part cellulose (pure cotton wool)
Sodium BiCarbonate
Distilled Water

1- mix the acids together VERY SLOWLY in a clean glass vessel

2- submerge cotton in the acid solution and leave to nitrate for about 10 minutes.

3- decant the acid solution and retain the acid for later use or dispose of in a SAFE AND CORRECT MANNER

4- wash the cotton with a sodium bicarbonate/distilled water solution to nutralise any remaining acid, then rinse with distilled water

Optional steps
5- dissovle the cotton in acetone and allow for acetone to vapourise, you will now be left with a paste that can be shaped and let dry. once dried can also be powdered.
