Peace through Force

I was wondering, is it possible to have peace brought about through force?

I was reading this when I thought of it:
I'm not saying to use military troops to prevent rioting, or fighting at a voting poll, or break up protesters. I'm saying, can you use force and military action to force two countries that are in constant turmoil, whether with each other or not, in order to make them peaceful countries.

I've noticed the US and other major powers use force to instill democratic ideals onto other countries, could that be considered peace, or do we force our views upon other people.

Is it truly "peace" that's brought about, or is it discipline brought on through fear. If peace is true tranquility, force cannot bring about peace..can it?

yea or maybe if there is an outside force like with your "a military coming in to try and make two countries make peace" the without force thing would be that something like when you at school and theres some kid you really want to punch in the face just knoing that there is a teacher standing right there kind of makes you pause if not for just a second before you punch the kid in the face. kind of get what i'm tryin to say there. that that could be a way but not that i expect that to work in real life on and large scale. just in theory or classroom haha

True tranquility can not come about with violence. I believe peace, in the sense of much less violence, and no war can happen, but that is pretty much just oppression, and peace is a result.

People will just hate whoever is forcing the peace on them. Fuck peace if I'm forced to keep it with a gun to my head. Thas bullshit. The two countries might just unite, and form an alliance, and overthrow the country that was "keeping the peace," and break right back into war.

To save myself from going on and on, it is only a short term solution that should be used sparingly. It is best to let the 2 countries find an agreement, if the peace is kept while that is being done, then i suppose it played an indirect part in true tranquility; assuming that the true tranquility was reached after the agreement.

Well if there are 2 sides fighting, 1 is going to win which brings some sort of peace, (even if the losing side is reluctant) they have no choice as the winner is clearly more powerful. But if an external factor (another country for example) comes in and forces both of the fighting sides to stop, you can't exactly call it peace.

I'm kinda contradicting my self here, but even if a side wins a war, the losing team still hates the winner. I guess peace can only come a certain time after the war is over. Like WWII; France, Germany, The US, Japan and Italy are one big happy family now... hahaha

peace by force would be communistic in my opinion, if one is trully peacefull it is because they are and not by someones elses doing, if your going to give peace to someone or something then just bring peace with you, and if you cant give the peace then let em be, it is up to the people who want peace

I believe so. I don't think it is achievable simply by fighting them and forcing them to give up, but if both countries are attacked to the point where they have to focus on rebuilding, instead of attacking their neighbor peace will ensue.

This isn't foolproof though, look at Russia after WWII. They suffered massive losses, but continued on to spread communism across Asia.
