Are we an advanced race?

Are we, as humans, an advanced race? Is our technology advanced to the point that extraterrestrials would deem us worthy of sharing their technology with us?

Yes, certain humans are advanced. The powers-that-be possess technology that the average Joe could't even imagine.
Others are simple.

In conclusion, I voted yes, but the term 'human' is too broad.

How is the term "human" too broad? You want to get all scientific and say "homo sapien"? Its not like there are other candidates on this primitive planet that can compete with humans in terms of technology.

Considering the fact that we're advanced enough to slow our own evolution by environmental control, I'd say yes.

When I said the term 'human' is too broad, I merely meant we cannot say all humans are technologcically advanced because not every individual will able to fathom how to even work a toaster.

People are too different to be placed under one spectrum in terms of the question you asked.

I didn't say humans as individuals, but as a race, like everyone working together as one. Most people have potential to understand and create technology, but that is a pointless endeavor when they aren't even educated.

We are a .72 on the Kardashev scale

The Kardashev scale is a method of measuring a civilization's level of technological advancement. The scale is only theoretical and in terms of an actual civilization highly speculative; however, it puts energy consumption of an entire civilization in a cosmic perspective. It was first proposed in 1964 by the Soviet Russian astronomer Nikolai Kardashev. The scale has three designated categories called Type I, II, and III. These are based on the amount of usable energy a civilization has at its disposal, and the degree of space colonization. In general terms, a Type I civilization has achieved mastery of the resources of its home planet, Type II of its solar system, and Type III of its galaxy.

We are far from advanced.

I actaully knew about that for a long time. I believe it is true too.

Put it this way: We might think that ant colony is primitve and such, but a civilization thats millions of years older than ours might view us like ants. I'm actually surprised of people's confidence in us as a civilization.

I definitely have confidence in our species as a whole.
We may have taken a while to get where we are now, but we definitely are not uncivilized or dis advanced.

I'm actually depressed in knowing that I am part of a young and primitive race, and that the promises of technology that's the stuff of science fiction, will never come into fruition during the time of my short and insignificant life span.

Oh well, I guess I might as well help in making what we already have better, so that the next generation of people can build upon it and further improve it, and so on and so forth.
