Some boards are really into the "SWIM" terminology. I asked the sysop about this and got the reply that such lingo served as a disclaimer and somehow sidesteps self-incrimination.

It sounds reasonable, but does anyone really believe that it offers legal protection?

It does not offer any legal protection, but, nothing you say on an internet board could be used against you in a court of law anyways unless you displayed intricate knowledge of a crime not available to the public, in which case use of your word swim would not protect you because you still have that knowledge and are still incriminating yourself.

Basically, if you are unwilling to admit that you did it, then fuck off and die, stop posting about it in the first place.
