my advice would be
look for LBS (little brown shrooms)
they grow from cow crap and in lawns as well there about 1 1/2 tall and there brown capped with a white steam. they grow from summer to the fall and when you do find one of these take a piece of white paper and remve the cap and pore somewtaer over it then placea lid over it and about thiry some min if you have a deep purple spore print it should be safe to eat

and when damaged its shoul brusie blueish purple.

AND like these guys said watch out for look alikes.

smart man... you put just about the same thing i was gunna put. also SOME you can find on your lawn.. i wouldn't recommend tryin these ones. you will most likely get the wrong ones.... be careful because they are really hard to identify because ALOT of them look just alike... and one that you forgot is COW SHIT.. DUH!!!!

I found nearly 50 Panaeolus foenisecci in my backyard I dried them out and ate 20 of them and had a decent low level trip got the giggles an shit so all in all it was a good time.
