so i read alot of ways to do this, then i wrote a simple step-by-step process, i havent treid it yet, im posting it here to get approval from the big dogs on this site, so please read and tell me if im remotly close.

Step one: chop the plant up, the smaller the better, (if it were weed, it would be “shake”). Chop and the let the plant dry it must be slowly dried, do not heat excessively.

Step two: put your finely crushed plant in a big container and cover it with methanol (naphtha, wood alcohol, carbinol) Alternatives to methanol here are ethanol (not as good) and acetone (good Solvent - rips the shit out of anything, but is more reactive - can react
With your actives).

Step three: leave the container in a warm place for a few days, different plants take longer then others. Occasionally shake the container. About a week should get all the DMT out of the plant, some instructions say to reflux at the methanol’s boiling point, but waiting a week should get all the stuff out.

Step four: filter your container which after a week will contain brown mush, residue, and methanol. Re soak it a second and third time if you feel generous, the more times the better, 3 is more then enough.

Step four ½ : after filtering your brown mush, dry it and then soak it for an hour in a dilute hydrochloric acid, this step helps by getting that last bit on DMT. Some plants have more or less DMT then others, so if you have one with less this step is very useful, but it isn’t entirely needed.

Step five : now you have a methanol soaked brown mush, let the product sit and dry, methanol is a fast evaporating chemical and when it evaporates, it all usually evaporates, so let your brown much sit and dry for a few hours, however long it will take. Once dry this product can be ingested or smoked or however you choose to do it. Although if you continue with these directions your product will be cleaner and more safe.

Step six: take your brown methanol mush and filter it with hydrochloric acid, (1M) HCl works just as fine if you don’t have hydrochloric acid. Filter your product twice if you can. If you don’t want to filter it, you can also boil your product with activated charcoal and filter the charcoal brew once done boiling for about 5 minutes. Any of these steps work and once done you should have an acid aqueous solution of alkaloids and water soluble from the plant.

Step seven: now you have to turn your acidic solution into a base, to do this you mix in a dilute sodium hydroxide. Use up to 5M to save on total volume. Be careful with
Conc NaOH - apart from eating skin, it eats alkaloids. As you mix in the NaOH you will see swirls of white precipitate form and redissolve. Continue until the white swirls stay, and until the solution is quite cloudy. You can use indicator paper to test the acidic ness but if you can’t find any, you can throw some purple flowers in your boiling mixture; purple flowers turn red in acid and green in a strong alkali.

Step eight : now duplicate the volume of your product by adding dichloromethane then pour the whole thing in a large jar (pickle jar is pretty good) add salt water to help break the emulsion Then separate by straining, do this step 3 times if possible. You might lose some product in this step. Let the product sit and dry, using a hair dryer helps to speed this up, but don’t get the mush to hot to quick, just kind of warm it. There will be a little syrup in the product, but this is to be expected.

Once the product is totally dried, it is complete.

Yeah, pretty straightforwards a/b tek, looks pretty good to me, but I have a bit of advice.

You don't really need to soak for a week. Toss the whole thing in a blender with hot 'tone and just blend it for ages. Then reflux and filter.

My other advice would be washing and cleaning the product. After step 5, defat and wash with tolly. Then, at the end of step seven, wash with anhydrous acetone.

At step eight, you should add finely powdered table salt (not iodised), rather then salt water.

After step eight, I'd be inclined to wash with 'tone again, and depending on what form you want it in (e.g smoking or pills) then I'd titrate with citric acid, and stick it in capsules with harmaline extract.

Oh, and finally. Don't boil it with active charcoal. you'll just adsorp all the product into the carbon and never get it out.

when you say wash with tolly are you talking about "toluene", or something else?

Yeah, toluene. Other NPs work well too, Xylene, DCM, ether etc.

o.k so i went out to my local marshland and i went hunting for canary reed grass, i just so happened to bump into this conservation guy, who was working on birds. he pointed me to the plant, but when i came back he told me that what we have around here, is just (commen reed) or Phragmites australis, i was wondering if it also contained DMT?

Yes...I just don't know if there is a difference in quantity.

the potency is about 1/4 in your local grass

well ive done some research and i guess the dmt is located in the roots in common reed, so does this extraction still work?

yah its the same fuckin thing.

Not the 'roots' exactly but the rhizome, the large tuber beneath the ground where the roots all spread from. And yeah, use the same process.
