Yeah, that's true.
I was thinking earlier about how someone on this forum once said that Kurt Cobain was the best guitarist EVER. But didn't someone else say that he was just a rhythm guitarist? They weren't really hugely famous because they were awesome, they just happened to hit it big whenever grunge started to become popular, and then Kurt's 'suicide' happened, which made them even more famous.

I think WAY back when Kurt had his band Fecal Matter...it was kind of punk...but Nirvana will always be grunge

This is the difference that I see. If someone else thinks I'm wrong, or wants to put their 2cents in, go ahead.

Grunge to me sounds more like alternative rock. It's slower rock, but it's not 'soft.' And sometimes it can be more upbeat and such. It's something you can slightly headbang to.

Punk is more loud, fast, and out there. It's way more up-beat and something you can mosh to.

grunge is a punk inspired musical thing that took place in the early-mid 90s (not totally sure), punk was a movement that took place from 1976-1985 (debateable but whatever it's close). google the two if you really give a shit. the only punk thing about nirvana was their attitude/ spirit.

grunge is actually a little bit more metal, it took the place of the hair/glam metal of the late 80's

Grunge is slower and more self centered, Punk is fast and expresses opinions about the world and its problems.

so basiclly punk is just another term for a whole bunch of winey little white fags complaining about the world and sing about how things should be but dont do anything but sing about it
