Anyone still playing with batch is a n00b imho. And as for the 'deleting the C drive' thing.

Read this blog post by someone who was bored enough to try it. There's more to it than just `format C:\`.

For those too lazy and/or illiterate to read that, the main reason is that the drive is mounted and it can't very format itself without being told to very sternly. AKA: `del /F /S /Q *`

Run that and it should do something similar to what was reported in that blog post.

I haven't made a batch file in ages but when I did I probably would have done somthing like this (at a prompt)

copy con file.bat
@echo off
pause
@echo DEL^GETI^GNG HA^GRD D^GRIVE
prompt ERROR
^Z

1 file(s) saved
-------------------------

That is from memory that is 2 decades old so if it's wrong dont flame, or do flaming is fun.

and now that I think of it, since everyone is using xp/vista it would just do it's thing then return them to the window managers so it would trick them for about a second. I'm sure there is a command to hold the screen open, something like a loop but don't know it offhand , haven't use DOS in a while.
