it was canceled due mostly to having to compete with the show Coronation street. both aired at the same time, and coronation street was the most popular show at the time.
it was brought back because enough people missed it.
it wont be canceled again.

Doctor Who originally ran for 26 seasons on BBC1, from 23 November 1963 until 6 December 1989.
it was canceled then, a movie was made in 96 (complete failure of a movie), then it was brought back in 2005.
