I think at one point there might have been intelligent life on mars. Before earth had life mars might have been flourishing with life. The face on mars and all that stuff that resemble pyramids could be possible evidence that there was, but there is a good chance its all coincidence that it looks that way. They should send rovers there just to be sure.
