I have been discussing the event at great length today with many people and most of my friends and family agree that the saddest thing about today is that nothing will happen about gun control in the US.

These are my honest opinions and I'm not saying this just to get some of you riled up, I truly believe what I'm going to say here:

I want to put away sarcasm etc. I'm serious when I say this. A few years ago Martin Bryant went into a busy town in Port Arthur, Tasmania, Australia and killed a lot of people (sorry for the vagueness, I'm on a dialup connection but you can look him up if you like). The VERY next day, ALL semi-automatic and automatic firearms nation wide were banned. They were bought up by the government and melted down.

I really do pray that somebody will see the senselessness in this TRAGEDY and DO something about what has happened. You can no longer put the gun control issue in the back of your mind.

I understand that if guns are controlled, then only the bad people will get them illegally (which is an argument that I have strong evidence against, but see no need to present it here), but this guy wasn't a "bad" guy. He probably had no underworld connections, he had no nefarious motive.
He was a guy who bought a gun legally and was able to kill a lot of people. Assuming he had no high-up underworld (excuse the pun) connections, he would not have been able to access the firearm used in the massacre.

I understand this is a very heartfelt issue in the states, and it is something that greatly concerns me, too, but I just hope that this incident will at least make SOMEONE realise that something needs to be done about gun control in the US.
