In the early hours of the morning (2:20am GMT), a couple of blokes decided to act, they scaled an industrial crane over looking Parliament Square, they unrolled two banners that stated clearly what they and Some 88% of the population wanted, this was a vote, a democratic say in what was going to inevitably effect their lives and their country. These banners read simply “Referendum Now!” and “Give us OUR vote!” This so called “incident” came two days before MPs are set to vote on a Conservative amendment to the EU Treaty Bill, calling for a referendum on the issue. Now this is fair enough, I felt, the guys went up there, braved the winds and the cold all for a democratic protest.

They did it as “A mini-ballot organized by the campaign group I Want a Referendum saw more than 150,000 people in 10 constituencies vote on the issue. Some 88% were in favor of a national referendum.” (Words of BBC NEWS website) the legislation in question is known as the Lisbon Treaty.

I for one at this point in time, feel belittled by the E.U. they are not listening to the people, they are listening to each other, but it feels like they are sitting on clouds far above our heads and if it is one thing Europeans won’t stand for its being treaty like we have no say, as previous riots, revolutions, wars, etc. have proven. Apparently there is a lot of good things the E.U. have given us, but I can’t see them if they are so obvious.

And now, on the same day as this protest, BBC NEWS reports that “The government has dismissed calls for a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, two days ahead of a crunch House of Commons vote on the issue.” Much to the disgust of the conservatives (the opposition (a counter-balance to our Labour government)), any anti-EU media (which is a lot), 88% of the population (in which I am one) and even some of his own party members. I thought that we had gotten rid of brown nosing PM’s but obviously we have just found something else to brown nose. Mr. Brown, make a good decision or we could all be talking German within a year, but you know as long as we keep the pound, aye Mr. Brown-nose?

Ah well, the world needs another super power, right?
