errr....i cant view that right now (at school) but is it that video of the Aero and Beryl? if it is....Linux fucking pwned Vista...

this were grand, of course, they dont mention that aero vista is default setup, and you'd have to install 3ddesktop, and a couple other things to get ubuntu beryl to work like that, but the install to me is extremely easy, so it's not much really.....

all that video showd was the desktop and some features, thats not what will get me interested. i want to know what the compatability issues are, what programs do and do not run, how fast do different programs run. those types of things. on visuals alone then the linux program wins but i think windows will have a larger community of users.

If you read the quote in my first post, the thing right now is that Vista is as incompatible with things as Linux. Many Windows games/software doesn't work on Vista, as is the same with hardware. One of the reasons this video shows off the graphical stuff is because, like you said, Linux has better visuals, but the cool thing about that is that not only does it have better visuals it only needs 512 MB of RAM while Vista requires a minimum of one gig.

It can do every day tasks, web surfing, writing and printing essays, playing music/movies, and games. The upcoming Quake Wars will run on Linux. It can also do commercial things. Want Photoshop for free? Linux (as well as Windows) has GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) and GIMPshop which is made to look and work exactly like Photoshop. For office shit it also has OpenOffice which has many cool features MS Office doesn't have like making .pdf files. It also runs faster, click an mp3 and it instantly starts playing (xmms is da best, foo!) and it transfers files a lot faster than Windows. Took minutes to transfer large amounts of mp3s in Windows Linux literally did it instantly.
