which version of linux?

ok you guys win. im installing linux on my old computer to try it out. im wondering what version you all think is best. i have the boxed version of SUSE which i might try but id like to get an idea of what else there is. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ubuntu 6.10... hands down easiest install... and probably the best distro right now... Maybe Fedora Core 6, but i like Ubuntu...

I agree with Ubuntu, but i would go for xubuntu it uses xfce. xfce is a great light weight desktop for older computers. the *ubuntu distro is great for noobs coming to linux.

yeah...xfce is teh shit. i hav xfce, gnome, kde, and fluxbox on my ununtu... so im covered on all ends...

Kde,Gnome,xfce and fluxbox are desktop environment. unlike windows Linux has a large variety of desktop environment. Kde and gnome are top end memory hungry desktops and xfce and fluxbox are minimal desktops. any of these can be moded to suit your needs you can even slim down Kde or Gnome, or have all the eye candy with Compiz/Beyrl.
