Heres how you screw over your Energy company.

First lets learn a thing or two: How do you get billed for electricity - A guy who works for the electrical company visits your house every month and takes readings from the service connected to the side (That glass globe with the spiny silver thing) it reads out the average amount of electricity you have used. Some months nobody will appear at your home, the Electrical company just takes an average reading from the same month the previous year and bills you for that. No sophisticated internet system, no magical network which monitors your minute by minute consumption. Thats it. A bit stone age but yea.

If you wanted not to heed my warning and someone was a complete idiot, heres how they'd stick it to the man
Cut the tamper protection ring (the dangley little bright plastic lock) mabey cut it so you could put it back without being really noticeable. Then unlatch the hinge holding the panel cover on. Open the panel. You should see some lines coming in from your service usually at the top of the service pannel then the glass globe should be in the middle and then there should be some heavy wire at the botom of the panel. If you wanted to do this without getting killed then you would unscrew the glass globe with a HEAVILY INSULATED SCREWDRIVER and make sure your wearing insulated gloves and insulated boots and just for shits and giggles you might want to be on an insulated mat. You would then remove the globe. When you remove the globe your house will then be without power. There would be a few sockets under it. Some coming from your power lines (or underground power) and some going to your house. All you need to do is cut a cylindrical bar of metal or simmilar guage wire to fit into thoes sockets and modify the glass globe to fit over them but without the plugs from the globe touching the metal spanning that gap. Congrads you have free power. BUT you need to again modify the globe. When the power company finds out its profit index is lower than it shoud be they will narrow it down to your local area. Their representitives will go door to door and inspect everyones meter. Depending on your meter you can do it different ways and thats up to you, if your a programmer and have an electronic meter you can hack it to give off false readings. if you have an old school spinning one you can either move it by hand once a month or put a motor in it which moves uber slow. But either way this whole thing is illegal

of course it's illegal...but i give you props...this reminds me of the good ol' days of bootlegging cable from the neihbors by digging a line to their source and putting a splitter and PRESTO! you now have free cable...but that too is illegal. but a LEGAL alternative to getting free power and actually having the electric company owing you $$$ is to either use solar power panels on top of your roof, or if you live near a source of water is to use a water wheel. if you produce more power than you use then the electric company will send you a bill(not in the negative as to what you owe them), but in the positive as to what they owe you....now shit about this either. i heard about this from my science teacher who was doing some research on the rolling blackouts in cali and that is what he found out

For sure, I found an article in PopSci with plans for a cheap wind turbine im planning on building if i get it up and running i'll post it here. There are ways to sell the stolen electricity back to the electrical company too, its a win/win situation (except for the electrical company)
