E-mail address

Let's say someone had an e-mail address which he used only on his laptop, and there was no other information tied to that e-mail address. Would the police be able to find the person using only an e-mail address, or is he fairly safe assuming there was no other information on the person?

Thanks,
Shane

That's what I was thinking. He actually accessed the account on his home connection since proxies weren't working, but I was thinking he could access the e-mail from a few friends computers, and use his laptop on different wireless connections and internet cafes so it wasn't as obvious. If it's too risky though, he may just use a new e-mail address and not make the same mistake. He just wants to be cautious as he would get in a lot of trouble if he was caught.

doesnt matter what internet he uses, or what computer he uses... if they want to find it; they will. So many times people underestimate the power of survalence.

It's not THAT big of a crime. It would involve the loss of about $300, and the only information the person would have is his e-mail address. Just wondering how paranoid he should be in the event that legal action is taken.

legal action is legal action. If the crime is 10 years in prison... then be paranoid about 10 years in prison. If its $300 be paranoid about $300.

Media Access Control address is used to identify network devices on a network. I dont think anyone would really need to use that to catch you.. unless perhaps you were illegally using a WiFi connection to do said crimes... then maybe.
