I am writing a novel about a killer and in one chapter he uses a bomb to destroy a porn shop. (Yes I know I have issue. We can talk about them later.) I want the book to be as real as possible so I am hoping to use this site to get facts.

With the bomb the killer wrapped it in lambs blood, he used plastic ziploc bags I know this can be done because of the great show Mythebuster. He also put nails in so the blast would not have to destroy the building just the people in it. But what compounds could he have used in the bomb. It would have to be small and not make anyone call the FBI when they see a five foot box in the middle of the shop.

Like I said the killer has to do things that are plausible on this planet not the fantasy world in someone head.

Say that our friend the mad bomber used acetone peroxide as his primary, and ammonium nitrate sensitized with nitromethane as his main charge.

Really, though, for a bog-simple shrapnel thrower like that he could use a couple of pounds of black powder and strong confinement. Pipe bombs are so damn popular for a reason, you know.

But every one does pipe bombs and as this character just got out of prison he would not have plausible access to black powder. So thank you very much for the info on the other compounds.

I researched them and it seems like he could get the ingredients without any one raising an eyebrow.

i got my best freind that for christmas, you shoulda seen his eyes when he opened it, i told his parents before hand so they could get in on making fun of him.

On a simple style note, I would suggest that he not use nails. Nuts, bolts, and other small metal items would be more appropriate.

fill a big mason jar with water and then put a shit load calcium carbide rocks in there. probably between quarter to half way full is best so it gives you time to close the jar and run away. calcium carbide can be bought in military surplus stores. just place it there and run like a bitch because it's gonna blow up and sends glass shards everywhere. to add a little boom you should come in with a lit cigaratte in you mouth so you can leave it next to the bomb so when it blows up the hydrogen well ignite and burn all the people. btw, when i say you i mean the character in your book.
