For those of you who dont know what im talking about, its where you mixed solid nitric iodine with amonia, and wait over night and remove the liquid and let the left over stuff dry, then you throw it at somthing

Now for the question. I am planning to make this and I would like to know if this accually works, because I heard the jolly rogers cookbook is full of shit, and I would like to know how big the explosion is so I know how far to throw them if it does work

probably would explode overnight, and it's not the only unstable explosive, and assuming we would know which one you were talking about from that title is kinda retarded

if it works right, i can only assume it's nitrogen tri-iodide which forms, and that shit will explode under it's own weight if its stored/you have too much...so dont make much...it's also a very low grade explosive that doesnt make much of an explosion....not really worth it what with it being unsafe to store.......might make a good primer if needed...asside from that...kinda purposeless...just buy those cheap fireworks that explode on impact.....

make acetone peroxide if your looking for a cheap primary.

Nitrogen Halides in general are very scary.
Bubbling Cl2 through Common household ammonia can yield NCl3 (nitrogen trichloride, retards) Which is extremely unstable.

The downside is that it's so easy to produce MASSIVE quantities that people underestimate it and go blow their fingers off.

Don't do it. It's unstable as fuck, and it's not even that powerful. Just make TATP, that's pretty stable, and packs more power.

i tried to make NCl3 once ith ammonium nitate and Cl2 but i used H2SO4 instead of sodium bisulafte and bleach to create Cl2 it went all wrong and i had to evacuate

Yeah, I once made TATP (actually it's D/TACTP, di-/tri-acetone-cyclo-tri-peroxyde) with a mixture of acetone and hydrogen peroxyde, and as the catalyst I used HBr instead of HCl.

That was a big mistake. The Br- and the acetone formed a teargas runaway, and I didn't notice it until it was too late.

dimer and trimer AP are very similar.
I have never noticed a difference.
While they MAY be energetically different, different reacting temperatures do very little to influence the isomeric behaviour of the AP.
