I'll buy you a beer some time. Good GOD do I wish there were proper military communities on the web for us like-minded souls, because just about every damn site around you'll find is all about small-scale, home-made, science experiment sorta things.
You'll forgive me for jumping on thermite, when you look abck at the overall psot history of this board and note how many hundreds of dumb mother fuckers have come up telling everybody how a 50c piece sized pile of thermite can melt through an engine block, without even bothering to mention first fire mixes, ratios, or meshes.
Don't completely knock the home-made side of things, though, because if worst comes to worst then we'll be stuck having to make out own. Say, I dunno, China decides we Aussies have too much room and not enough population, and we get the shanghai wolverines in our backyard. Well, you can make a decent primacord substitute from aquarium tubing, mineral oil, a large plastic syringe and some PETN. Plastique is easy, just take regular secondaries, get your ratios right and combine with polyisobuylene - Extracted from blu-tak with dry-cleaning solvent.
Railway torpedoes from moustraps, b*****-cutters from a couple pieces of C and L beam, cigar tube electric caps... 'Home-made' is the way I was trained. Sure, when you're out on the firefield they give you decent cast TNT blocks, but they don't teach you how to handle it when you have to scrape it together from old mortar rounds (I'm talking pipe-wrenchign open UXO 120mms, not that firework shit BlackZodiac always craps on about, heh) get the dust out, dry it without blowing yourself up... My training started official, then moved to expedient. More versatile that way.
You hit the nail on the head, though - This is a civilian site. And it's nearly entirely populated by thirteen year old dumbasses. If I started talking about Miznay-schadin, they'd ask me to pass the bong. I teach what they can manage, and I need to keep order. If I let just anybody wlak in and ask anything, then we wind up with the same five questions asked over and over again. if people learn to think for themselves, first, to actually TRY to learn instead of expecting it to be spoon-fed to them - Then that's a good thing. Kids these days just get handed everything on a goddamn silver platter. not here. Here, they gotta work for their meal. A little fear goes a long way, and just because my sadistic streak enjoys weeding out retards, doesn't mean I'm not doing the right thing.
