This guy was making it. Then he accidently knocked of the thign he was making it in. it dried in his carpet, and when he stepped on it it went off. Is that possible?

yes it is, but it depends on the purity of the ammonia, the more pure the more volitile, It has about the same stability as nitroglycerine if used with pure ammonia, but some household cleaners are impure enough that the NI3 is stable enough to throw. It's a realatively harmless explosion if you mix it in small amounts and wear protective gloves and all that stuff. It's a pretty fun way to scare the shit out of someone too, just be safe.

It is very possible, and I would even say, that when you're such a dumbass to knock over your NI3, it's more certain to explode than just lay on your carpet and do nothing.

Well isnt it stabe of its still wet? So thenwouldnt it be stable enough to dry in the carpet?

It's still stable when it's wet, but assuming NI3 crystals have already formed, the carpet will absorb most of the excess ammonia, leaving some nice, dry, unstable NI3 crystals.

Volatile does not mean more likely to explode, volatile means that it will easily become a gas.
Nitroglycerin is actually very stable. NI3 is NEVER stable enough to throw.
It is dangerous even in small amounts, (as are ALL explosives)
Throwing explosives near or on somebody is INSANELY dangerous.
