I can't think of anything to do with it except light it off. It's pretty old though, powder isn't that great anymore. If I were to hollow it out though, would it make a good casing for future explosive?

I don't see why not. It's meant to stand a good amount of heat, so it should work. I don't know how the age would affect it unless it's all soggy and cruddy inside.
