well where i live there is no such option. they don't actually sell magnesium or fire starters or stuff . can it be isolated with chemical or mechanical ways from subsances or mixtures-alloys? like that thing about stomachache, the ''milk of magnesia'' i think. it's a solution of Mg(OH)2. theoretically if smn boils off the water and then electrolyse it he would get pure Mg on the one pole-wire right. is this going to work?

Well, today I went to Wal Mart and asked the lady at the outdoors section and she looked very clueless as to what I was talking about. I think you might be thinking of Magnelium which is indeed an alloy that you get from ***ting magnesium and aluminium with a blow torch then mixing them in a container such as a clay pot. The finished product is a very brittle metal that you can crush into a powder. It's highly flammable and you have to ***t it and mix it directly.

well, even though ''megnelium'' seems very intresting it is not what i am talking about. and where i live there aren't any wall-mart or k-mart. in my country i rather doubt there are even chemical supply shops that can sell stuff to common people . the best reactants someone can get are bathroom cleaning liquids and paint solvents. it's a bit primetive .Even Robinson Caruso would do better! Anyways... what i am talking about is a sort-of-medicine for stomach ache. look for it and you will se what i am talking about. So will it work?

Sorry man it's not actually pure magnesium. It's called Magnesium Hydroxide and yes it's a tablet that you take for constipation. So it really wouldn't work as far as I know.

Well stalhwulf, this is exactlly what i am talking about. it's magnesium hydroxide [Mg(OH)2 as i said before]. but through boiling off the water, ***ting the Mg(OH)2 and then electrolysis this would lead to pure Mg, right?

And numerator-91, i am not trying to make my life diffycult and so i want to eletrolyse Mg(OH)2 to get Mg. i have thought of e-bay but as i, also, said before: not an option! . in a few months i could give a try but for now, na-ah! i don't have an exact adress, nor a credit card and generally it is hardly going to work. Robinson Caruso does better remember...
