I agree with most of the comments posted here. Nitrogen triiodide is too fucking unstable to use for any type of purpose-serving explosive.

On the other hand, although it is dangerous as shit, it's still fun once in a while.

To the original poster, you can synthesize iodine crystals yourself if you really want to. It's considerably cheaper and pretty easy.

All you do is make a solution of bromine and water, then add potassium iodide. A decent amount of iodine crystals will form immediately. The more you mix the more you yield, of course. Then you can filter out the iodine crystals easily.

At last, somebody else with the slightest inkling of chem knowledge!

In reality, though, if you've got bromine water and you're wasting it on NI3.NH3 you need to be dragged out into the street and shot.
