pfft it's just a theory.
They are making antimatter as we speak.
Look it up. It's an incredibly slow process and it takes billions of joules of energy to do, but it is being done.

The theoretical energy yield from 1gram of antimater colliding with 1gram of matter is just mind blowing. I think we're nearly talking earth destroying mind- blowing.

There is antimatter indeed, and it has already been made. It's even pretty easy to make, nature does it all the time. The only difficulty with antimatter is that it's fucking hard to contain, and it costs pretty much energy. The simple explanation would be with quarks:

When nature produces a up-quark, it has a positive load of +2/3. But the energy to form the quark has to come from something. So when a up-quark appears, it's counterpart, the down-quark, will appear too. But since an up-quark is +2/3, and a down-quark is just -1/3, there will appear two down-quarks.

In this situation, the up-quark would be the matter, and the two down-quarks would be the same amount of antimatter. But since they're eachother's counterpart, they will "react", making eachother disappear, and leave an energy of 0.

Antimatter can be obtainen basically by taking something that has an energy of 0, and removing energy from it. The problem with this is only that you can't contain it: when you put antimatter in a container with energy level 0, it will share the energy with the container, which will share it with whatever it is connected to, which will share it with the entire planet.

But, to keep it simple: antimatter can be made, it has already been made, it just hasn't been contained, and will probably not be contained in the near future.

Well said Diablo. Couldn't have put it better myself.
The thing I find interesting though is:

The point at which something as zero energy is absolute zero, as temperature is a measure of the inherent energy of a particular compound.

It can't mean a zero bond energy, because such a thing could not exist, could it?!?!?!?!

But!
How do we get something to absolute zero. I have no doubt that in the infinite universe there are regions of absolute zero where this antimatter could be formed ,but how would we do it on earth!?!

Well, there is no absolute zero, but there is an energy level that man has established, and called zero. This doesn't mean that the matter doesn't contain any energy, but just that it contains the same amounts of positive and negative energy.

It is thought to be possible to contain antimatter in a total vacuum, but when you add antimatter to a vacuum, the vacuum would be gone. On earth, we can form it with strong electromagnetic fields, which would tear apart the air molecules into positive and negative pieces. The problem would be, that when the particles touch the magnet, they will absorb the energy the magnet is giving off, or deliver the extra energy they contain to the magnet.

Currently we produce antihydrogen.
Which is a antiproton being orbited by a positron.

OK, didn't know that. But does it actually have a use, except from making hydrogen vanish (which wouldn't be a very good idea, we'd just lose another source of energy)?

But anyways, I'm off to bed now. It's 2:44 a.m. now, and I have to get up at 7:30. Nighty-night!

they all thought it was fake because of the book angels and demons. dont the use particle accelerators to create antihydrogen now? also as of right now we only have enough antimatter to amount to the energy created when a match is lit. 1 ton or antimatter would basicly destroy earth. then you would most likly have excess antimatter orbiting around annihilating anything it come into contact with.

i posted hastily earlier not thinking i learn in stages and i reached the second stage shortly after i posted the theory......we do make anti matter ...but as of now its mearly low energy antihydrogen like N20 says.
and i read somewhere that CERN produces elenough antimatter in a year to power a 100watt light bulb for 3 seconds....or something like that. which is produced in a antiproton declerator ftw....

Liquid plumber and aluminum foil works too.

Is it the hydrogen chloride that reacts to the aluminum foil or is it another ingredient in it?

do i really have to say it again?

HCl (hydrochloric acid (("hydrogen chloride"))) + Al (aluminum) --> H2 (hydrogen) + AlCl3 (aluminum tri-chlorde)

(not sure if that's what exactly forms, it's determined by the little number above the Al and that can vary im sure......wtf? it wasnt that long ago when i took chemistry, i should remember what that # is called)

oh and yeah, cern is my heroes....mainly cuz i can live there and work in giant labs.......
