I don't know if this has been posted before, but this is for some people who don't know.

-Open area.
-Heat source.
-Table salt NaCL.
-Pan or something to hold the salt in.

Very easy, heat up the salt. But stand back, because this also produces chlorine gas whch can kill you.

Lye (NaOH) is easier cause it has a lower melting point, also, if you buy some helium or Argon from homedepot, you wont get much sodium oxide in the process. but lithium is more obtainable in free state from batteries. Too bad its not as reactive

Not "very easy", it requires an immense amount of heat to melt the salt, and it won't magically separate from the chlorine. Also, you have to keep the heated (and thus reactive...) sodium from reacting with the air and the moisture therein, which generally involves vigorously burning or exploding in your face.
