HMTD Question??

i have been thinking about making some HMTD and i have a few questions about it: how sensitive is it, compared to acetone peroxide? can it be stored(i know its not safe to store explosives just wondering)? how does this synthesis look to you:

Ingredients:

2.5 teaspoons of Hexamethylenetetramine(spelling?) - solid fuel tablets(sold at camping stores and army surplus stores) - i will call it hexamine in the tutorial

90ml of Hydrogen Peroxide 3% - drug stores (disinfectant)

4.5 teaspoons of Citric Acid - drug and food stores, sometimes called "sour salt"

Equipment:
container: i recommend glass but plastic should work
1 teaspoon measuring cup
1/2 teaspoon measuring cup
refrigerator
time
patience

Procedure:

1. Slowly dissolve the hexamine into the hydrogen peroxide
2. Cool the solution for 30 minutes in the refrigerator
3. Dissolve the Citric Acid into the peroxide hexamine soluton
4. Let it sit in the refrigerator till solid particles form at the bottom of the container(this will take 8 - 24 hours)
5. Filter the crystals with a coffee filter and wash them with water
6. Let them dry in a COOL dry place

i wrote this synthesis my self, based on information i found on various sites

i got a recipe you might want to look at, it involves mechanical stirring, i dunno if you've heard of one that involved that, but mine does, synth looks good other than that though. I'll post mine if you want. Btw, spelling is correct.

yah post it, does it need to be continuously stirred during the synth??

As far as storage and sensitivity go, just remember that your still working with an organic peroxide.

The recipe is:
14 grams of hexamine (Hexamethylenetetramine) is dissolved in 45 grams of 30% hydrogen peroxide while being stirred mechanically in a beaker standing in a freezing mix of cracked ice, water, and a little salt. To the solution, slowly add 21 grams of powdered citric acid while stirring is continued and the mixture is kept at 0 degrees or lower. After the addition of citric acid is complete, discontinue the cooling. Let the mixture be stirred for three hours after cooling is over, stop stirring and then let the mixture stand for 2 hours at room temperature. filter, rinse thoroughly with water, and then rinse with alcohol if you want it to dry more quickly. It will not hurt the final product if you do, in fact, it is preferred.

ok so your saying they have basically the same sensitivity and storage characteristics, does it sublime like acetone peroxide?? and that recipe looks good, and is the stirring required for my method or won't it make a difference

as far as sublimation goes, I have no idea (never made the stuff). But there is a trend with any kind of organic peroxide to be very sensitive as for how sensitive I am not sure.

If you're going for absolutest high quality, I would do the mechanical stirring, but I think that the product you would get without it should be fine. But that's just my opinion, no scientific backing, might want to ask someone with more knowledge...Num?

ok, i know acetone peroxide is really sensitive, i have done many tests on that, i light tap of a hammer will detonate acetone peroxide, when i make the HMTD i will do some tests on sensitivity

"HTMD is the only organic peroxide which has been seriously considered as an explosive. Its explosive properties commend it, but it is too reactive chemically and too unstable to be of practical use."
I don't know what you make of that, but I've been considering making HTMD too, and this quote has made me hesitate ever so slightly. I would like to hear the results of your synthesis if you go through with it. -Good luck!
