How do you make gun cotton? It isn't regular cotton, has some explosive qualities I think, can't remember what it said. I know it is dangerous though. XD

Barium nitrate is better that salpeter, because Barium Sulphate doesn't dissolve, and forms a layer on the bottom of whatever you use for mixing it.

but KNO3 is way cheaper. as is sodium nitrate. i have a glass still so iwanna try making pure nitric acid.

In Europe, they use barium nitrate in every firecracker.
