You can make your own fuses with gun powder and the best thing I found to use is mop string. Of course the thicker the strand the slower and just one strand burns in about 5 to 10 seconds.

so i just saw on a website that described how to make a E-match that they used an acetone-pingpongball nitrocellulose concoction into which they put blackpowder to put on the bridging wire that they would use to light the main charge, would this be a firstfire?

also, i recently made some fuse by putting string into a little paper cup, getting the string saturated with water, then pouring out the excess water and rubbing some powder into the then wet string. i then let it dry and coated it with a thin coat of aerosol nitrocellulose. the only thing is that it seems to be too unreliable, like there will be chunks of powder randomly that make it speed/flare up for a small time. do you think these fuses (there are like 2 that are around a foot and a half long) would be okay to use if i used a long length of it or is it too dangerous?

The ematch you saw is a great first-fire mix, yes.

And no, unless you can reliably predict the burn rate every time, then don't trust it. Seriously - It's your life and limbs we're talking about here.

i see

i was just expiramenting, and if i remove the excess powder chunks it doesnt burn quite as fuselike, but it seems to have a steady slow burn, however i dont know if it would be enough to ignite a low order explosive. becuase it is just kind of a moving ember on the string thats like 2 mm long (the ember is, that is) and has a few sparks coming out of the back of it. ill do some test to see if that will work, but just at this very moment

No.

If you want to make it work... Lose the match-heads and get a bigger power supply. Add a little sulfur to your mix, use a very thin (preferably nichrome) wire and coil it up, then pump some decent amps through it.

well mine has a hole for it but i dont have a charger for it. ill have to get one somewhere. and yeah, my "fuse" is shit without the random pieces of powder (i used rocket engine powder cause my friend gave me like 3) is so slow...like its ridiculous. 30 seconds an inch. if i were to make it with the nitrocellulose/powder thing used for the firstfire on an e-match, would that be better? like if i were to just dip it in to that and then let it dry, would it turn out better than the shit i have?
