I just finished building my fuse making machine, and churned out 2km (.8miles or so) of high quality waterproof blackmatch in around an hour. This should be enough to last the rest of the year.

How do you guys make fuse, or can you guys just buy visco from shops over in america?

:shock: what did you use for the "casing" is it metal,some kind of fiber,plastic? Ive been buying my fuse latly 2$ for about 15 feet. Im guessing you feed in normal black match fuse where it is coated with somthing?

I've been using diluted nitrocellulose laquer as the coating. It makes the fuse a nice pink colour, and it looks very professional. The NC also slows burn rate which is a nice touch.

The blackmatch is just BP/Dextrin in etOH/Water solution onto baling twine then run through regular meal BP then run through the NC solution while still wet then allowed to dry for 10 days.

With nitric acid what amounts of KNO3 do i add to the H2SO4? because im not buying it anymore and i now have my glass still. Which i must say i am very happy with its performance so are the all my friends they like the alcohol i made.

Well.
You want to produce 3 mol of NO2 per mol of cellulose.
I can't be bothered worknig it out, but you can, doing the n=m/M formula.

Also, then add 50% more H2SO4 in order to catalyse the esterfication reaction.


So it's KNO3 + H2SO4 = HNO3 + KSO4 (unbalanced)

Then: HNO3 = NO2 (unbalanced, and complicated)

Cellulose + 3NO2 =(in presence of H2SO4)= TRINITROCELLULOSE.

Then dissolve in acetone.

I just buy my NC already in a laquer as a Putty for chisels, etc.
