I heard recently that conical indentations in HE's (not holes) can blast through steel that a normal uniformed surface of an explosive wouldnt, I was just wondering if anybody here has heard and/or tried this with their HE's. I know it's valid information but I dont know if the indentations just make the explosive louder and more destructive, or just more destructive.

Want to blast through steel? Use shaped charges.
Want a loud bang? Use casing that allowes more pressure to build up.

With the indentations, I think it might work sorta like a shaped charge, because the explosion comes out of the weaker spots first. But since there are weaker spots, it won´t be that useful if you want a louder bang. For a louder bang, the casing needs to let the explosion out all in the same moment.

no I dont really wanna blast through steel, just leave a nice crater to take credit for, along with hearing the sound of a huge explosion

HE's dont really pay attention to weak spots the rapid gas build up just detroys anything. Loud noise you say? AP will give a high pitched crack that leaves your ears ringing. AN will give a thunderous boom that travels really far.

AN = Ammonium Nitrate
AP = Acetone Peroxide (actually, it's D/TACTP)

yes it is true but if u want it to go downward u might want to build a small stabalizer type contraption out of coat hangers n stuff
