To havfe an explosion you have to have compression/pressure. Unless it is a highly unstable or HE substance. I may be wrong and i will accept that without flaming.

You can take strike anywhere match heads and break them off teh match stick. Put them inside a tennis ball and tape it shut. throw and it will either blow up or swell and blow the tape off. chances are however, you will merely ignite the tennis ball...

yes it will work u can use it as an anti personal gernade kinda like a pipe bomb but it has to be compact

Note, a tennis ball will not create fragmentaion. it will not act like a frag and throw shrapnel. Therefore, It can not be used as an anti personel grenade due to the fact it does not produce shrapnel. maybe an HE Greanade but that is giving it too much credit.
