Allright, this is for those of us who play the guitar. I have been playing guitar off and on for about a year and a half. I can learn about anysong i want except the songs where they shred(which is most of the music i listen to) so i just want to know how to get to the point where i can shred and play fast solos. So is there any scales to practice or anything to learn. Thanks for the help
Ps. are there any songs that are intermediate. Something i could learn but wouldnt be too hard.

as i lay dying, and also it depends on what pedals you got. I used to use a zoom 505, and zoom 505II. Awsome.. Can make any sounds you want, along with a Create amp and Ibanez guitar

haha well i gotta a nice Martin acoustic. was my dads. and i shitty starter electric... dont get me wrong its not that bad but the amp that it came with is worse than barbara streisand. anyways i just want something easy and i dont think as i lay dying is that easy. but who knows i could be wrong.

if you want easy start with shit like nirvana
and some of the lamer bands. like blink 182.
most of their songs are pretty basic.
even some metallica is alright to learn with
but its hard to make it sound GOOD unless you are good.

eh might not be to your taste, but she talks to angels by the black crowes sounds pretty good and easily impresses people... unless they actually play guitar

easy stuff....ACDC is easy for sure...I don't really play a lot of covers...but the main riffs for dethklok are fairly simple. try "go forth and die" by dethklok. the riffage is repetative and good. also...hmmm...tough question...I would advise against slayer and metallica...oh...misirlou by dick dale is really easy once you get the double picking patterns down. Then again, I've never met anyone who can play it right...and I've been double picking since I started...lol but I'll post more when I think of them

I would advise metalliva actually, it will help you do other things great, and misirlou is generally pretty easy

Misirlou is easy if you just double pick it. You have to learnt he patterns which is tricky

One place to start is Ultimate-guitar.com and look for their lessons. THen, hit google up for some scales. Really like everything else you just have to practice. Having a good distortion, reverb and chorus pedal arent a bad Idea either. Also, for those fast bits, alternate your picking. Up Down, up down. it makes it a lot easier than just going down or up when trying change strings in a run. Also, there is a hybrid picking, like alternate picking mixed with sweep picking. Look that up on ultimate-guitar.

agreed, AC/DC is great if you want too build a rock/bluesy base for guitar soloing. you have too build yourself up too the eric johnson, joe sat, etc kinda shit.
I've been playing for 10 years, along with drums and piano. mostly dedicated to guitar, the best advice too shred, is too just practice those scales over and over and over and over. at least 4 straight hours a day.
goodluck buddy.

depends the genre of music you want to sculp your soloing abilities around my friend. do you want too master sweeping appes and shredding up and down the guitar neck? or do you want a rock/bluesy more self fulfilled sound, such as SRV or something? because I have a variety of suggestions, considering I was once where you were, Not knowing where too begin on my next "step."

the first song i ever learned on guitar was One by Metallica. &i just learned the beginning riff. but then i thought the first part of the solo thing would be easy.. and now i basically shred. &i've only been playing for like 2 years.

one is a great song to practice the basic time signature. and a great way to learn little rock riffs to key your own together. a major suggestion to all, learn the WHOLE song, too any song in which you are trying to accomplish. don't have ass it. listen too the song over and over, play along with it, practice scales and chord progressions. and in a year or two, if you do exactly that. you will be able to shred like a mad man, that goes back to what I said in an earlier thread, IF you play for at least 2-4 hours a day.

nah. I use down tuning all the time...it enhances many songs...like stairway to heaven sounds sweet in C standard. but I've been known to tune even lower than that...try one step above a bass' standard.

i play, mostly just punk cause i like it (dont hate now!) but when i went to learn solos and all that jazz, i started trying to learn finger tapping and h-ons and p-offs, you know that stuff. i did exercises like those everyday till my fingers almost fell off. It helps so fucking much. im so much quicker with everything. try it

the lowest I go, is half a step down. haha. into SRV mode. but then again, I mostly play the blues so its understable.
