How do we know there's a God?
How do I know the World Trade Center actually happened?
How do we know that Neil Armstrong was actually the first person on the moon?
How do we know that a human has been on the moon?
How do I know that New York really exists?
How do I know other continent exist?
How do I that my name is Siobhan.?
How do I know that my parents are my parents?
How do I know that I am in fact alive?
How do I know that life is not just a dream?
How do I know that this really was be posted?
How do I know what color orange is?
How do I really know that blind people are blind?
How do I know that I'm not in a vegetative state?

Question everything. Believe nothing.

I've never seen God.
Ive never seen the world trade center.
I've never seen the moon in person.
I've never been to the moon
I've never been to another continent.
I've never been to New York
I've never been to another continent.
You can't prove my parents are my parents; because how do I know that DNA is real?
Prove that I'm alive.
I can't find proof that I'm not asleep.
I can't prove that orange is orange and not pink.
I can't prove that I'm not blind.
I don't know if I'm in a vegetative state or not.

Give me proof that this isn't just my imagination

Wait, I don't really know if you exist...

Well, technically you're both right, because of what A Deo said "I think therefore I am." Descartes said each of us lives in our own reality, and so we choose what to believe.

You know... If you want to prove something, find it out for yourself. If you dont think that there is a New York, then go and travel there. Fuck, live your life and find your own truth, because you are the only one person who can tell what is right from wrong, and that is yourself. Be free people.

And so now you are using Kant, which is the most logical way to find out truth.

12. Orange is any color but orange.

I thought it was every color, but orange is just what you see... because if I look at the fruit, an orange, I'd see the color orange. it's every color (including orange), but orange is the only color that light reflects into your eye, right? I understand how it works, but I think you explained it wrong... that's just what I was learned :D lol...

Well, the way my professor explained it is that if you see an orange shirt the shirt is actually any color but orange because we are seeing the color of light that the material is reflecting; a white shirt reflects all colors of light so we see white light that is reflected off of the shirt, on the other hand a black shirt absorbs all colors light so it has no reflection of color from the light color spectrum, and thus it is black. Do you understand what I meant by my previous statement?

What exactly is color. Does color exist or is it just something to help distinguish things.

I think most of you are missing his point. TO HER...how does she know New York exists, for example, and it's not just a figment of her imagination? Traveling there would do no good, because what if that's just a figment of her imagination as well? The point is...reality is what you make it. You believe what you want, and perceive things how you want. You can't talk about this from a logical, realistic standpoint, because it completely changes the topic. She's not asking if YOU know for a fact that these things exist, she's asking you to open your mind and think about some crazy shit. If you take it all in, it will really trip you out. Basically, it all comes down to assuming you are who you are and things are the way they are, because if you don't you'll end up in a mental institution like a lot of geniuses who think too much about questionable things with no true answer. It's the things that CAN'T have a correct answer that challenge us.

The only time I've ever been "tripped out" by a thought is thinking about how something could be infinitely big. That makes my mind have a strange sensation when I think about it.

eSiobhan
October 3rd, 2007, 07:42 PM
It doesn't necessarily cause my mind to be "tripped out". But it is really odd to think that things could be completely nonexistent....

Think about your imagination. You can think of anything you can possibly conceive, even if it’s not of the world we know... Are we actually thinking of new thoughts with our imagination or are we recreating things that are already in existence. After all nothing is new under the sun.

October 4th, 2007, 12:49 PM
Good point Deo. We can't comprehend a comprehensible universe. It's impossible, seeing as how it is unknown to us. So, saying it is incomprehensible to comprehend the universe is a good way to expand your mind. Or go crazy ha, ha. But only if you really think about it. Smoke some weed and then think about shit like that...your mind will be goin all over the place with that.

First: Imagine that a dot on a universal plain contains everything that ever was, is, and will be, but if it contains everything it also contains nothing, so it is everything and nothing at the same time, therefor the dot doesn't exist, so therefor existence is an illusion.

Second: (a) This sentence is false.

If (a) is true, then (a) is false, but we can also establish the converse, as follows. Assume (a) is false because the sentence is saying precisely that (na***y that it is false), the sentence is true, so (a) is true.

We've now shown that (a) is true if and only if it is false. Since (a) is one or the other, it is both.

Third: A man receives information about his own future, telling him that he will die from a heart attack. He resolves to get fit so as to avoid that fate, but in doing so overexerts himself, causing him to suffer the heart attack that kills him.

A Deo et Rege
October 5th, 2007, 02:04 PM
Think about this:D

God exists.
None of the sentences in this pair is true.

The only consistent way to assign truth values, that is, to have these two sentence be either true or false, requires making "God exists" be true. So, this has "proved" that God does exist.

eSiobhan

Yes. I agree.

Rasta_Man
October 5th, 2007, 02:18 PM
Sorry that does not prove God to me. Sure it sounded smart and interesting, but there is no evidence. You are talking about proving existence, when we cant prove it with God or science because we are not smart enough yet. The Idea of God is too convenient and simple.

A Deo et Rege
October 5th, 2007, 02:22 PM
It's called a liar paradox, the fact that the second negates both as true statements, therefor both are true statements; Do you get what I mean?

Rasta_Man
October 5th, 2007, 02:25 PM
Yes I got it. Its makes you think, but doesnt make me think of a God.

I believe in God, so, it makes quite a bit of sense. God can not be wholly proven, but he can not be disproved. And there is more evidence that a God exists than that he doesn't. But that is an opinion, you look at things differently depending upon what you want to believe.

I don't believe in God. But I don't have any proof that he doesn't exist, and I can't really find any proof that he does exist. I would like for you to explain what you mean by "...there is more evidence that a God exists than that he doesn't. If you say "Duh, the Bible.", I could write and publish and re-publish and distribute a book that says "I'm a jealous person and if you continue to rely on a book that may or may not dictate your whole life and so on, I'll send you eternal damnation in a lake of fire. Or you can just do everything I say and you can float on a cloud and sing with angels." Any physical evidence of a God, IMO, is impossible to prove authentic, but the same goes for any physical evidence of a God not existing (if you can find any :)). Just believe what you want to believe people, I'll continue to be a pure and faithful Pastafarian.:)
