I don't know where to ask questions on this site, so I will put it here.
What is the most effective way of getting red tip of the match off, leaving as much of the wood behind.
Also, is there anything that can be done with the red phosphorous in the strike surface? I know it can be converted into white phosphorus, which is simple, but is there anything else that it can be used for?

I would use a knife. Scissors aren't to be trusted, even a kitchen knife would do.

Just take a big kitchen scissors and cut off the top. I do this with paper book matches, just do the whole pack at once.

Strikers are traditionally used by californian bikies for RP/I meth cooking.
