This thread is a response to a post I saw. Here's the post:

I guess you could say I 'lack a religion' since I don't adhere to one religion specifically. So I guess this applies to me right?

So I checked out the websites, and they just look fucking stupid. Its like someone wanted to be a satanist, but was scared of it so they dumbed it down into what these websites make it out to be.

Without even knowing much about satanism I can spot plenty of outright lies too. It says something in there about the temple of Solomon meaning the temple of the sun. How stupid would you have to be to not realize that Solomon was a person? It was built by king Solomon, not to pay homage to SOL+OM+ON. WTF kinda person comes up with this stuff?

Here's one section of the site I found particularlly entertaing:The initiation ritual is very personal, unless you decide to have friends participate, or are doing it as part of a group.

You will need:

1 or more black, blue or red candles (as many as you like)
A sterilized needle or razor
A piece of clean paper, large enough to write the prayer below
A dry pen, where you sign your name in blood (dip the ip of the pen in your blood)
Write the following prayer:

Before the almighty and ineffable God Satan/Lucifer and in the presence of all Demons of Hell, who are the True and the Original gods, I, (state your full name) renounce any and all past allegiances. I renounce the false Judeo/Christian god Jehova, I renounce his vile and worthless son Jesus Christ, I renounce his foul, odious, and rotten holy spirit.

I proclaim Satan Lucifer as my one and only God. I promise to recognize and honor him in all things, without reservation, desiring in return, his manifold assistance in the successful completion of my endeavors.

It is important to bathe before any rituals you perform, this is done out of respect. When you are ready, you can light the candle. Take the needle, prick the index finger of your left hand, squeeze some blood out.

Sign your name in blood.

Recite the prayer either aloud or in your head

Fold the paper and let it burn in the fire of the candle. Many of us have stayed and meditated until the candle had burned itself out.

At the end of the ritual, close with the words "So mote it be." And a Big "HAIL SATAN!!"

Am I the only one who finds this both entertaining and disturbing?

You are not the only 1 who finds it a little bit entertaining. I have heard of other odd religious rituals and stuff before like this. I do not know why people get so into religion. You could say i also lack a religion because i do not know what to believe and i don't think it matters. I am not against religion just don't ram it down others throats and you can believe whatever you wanna believe or write whatever you want in blood. when anybody dies regardless of faith or where you think you are going when you die, everyone is going to the same place, the ground. If there is anything beyond that you would need to die to find out.

I pretty much say exactly that all the time. I hate it when people force whatever they believe in [whether it be theist or atheist] and act like if someone believes something different, it's wrong.

you could worship a water***on with a mustache and googley eyes glued on it by dancing around it in nothing more then a thong while singing "the wheels on the bus go round and round" song backwards for all i care. just please close your curtains on your windows. if i could prove absolutely 100% to the pope that there was no god to where he would be like yea..you are right, i wouldn't tell anybody. the belief in a higher power can help people too, like AA or just so that somebody never feels alone. annd the jehovah whitness people that come around to your house is annoying, but ive invited them into my house while i was vacuming and i just said "take this and tell me all about jesus." so he vacumed all my floors and i listened to my ipod nodding occasionally like i cared. when he was done vacuuming i was like "thanks, ill have to think about what you said" i wish everybody could chill out and see how stupid they look for fighting people to the death because they are not the same as them, but it's just human nature to want to fight

Why would you want to summon a demon? I don't think I'd ever be in a desperate enough circumstance to want to trade my soul for anything.

Why would you want to summon a demon? I don't think I'd ever be in a desperate enough circumstance to want to trade my soul for anything.

It's only business with a demon, if you want something you have to give something of equal or greater value. You can't just walk up to a mercenary and demand the job done. It's a strange example, but it's two things you don't fuck with.

what is an example of something you would trade with a demon though? i couldn't find that..i only saw that they can rightfully eat you if they are freed

This whole trading with demons thing reminds me of the video game series the elder scrolls. When you make deals with Daedra and bring them something they like to their altar so you can get different artifacts from each one.

Random I know, but i figured I'd point that out.

by the way, have any of you satanists actually summoned a demon? Do you know of anyone or have you heard of anyone who has summoned a demon? The whole thing sounds like a poorly written fantasy book to me

So destroying someone who annoys you makes more sense to you than the seven deadly sins? How exactly did you come to this conclusion?

I'm going to go ahead and assume you meant to say something like, 'if you think people summoning demons is just stories you should try it out' or something like that.

In which case, I say no. I don't want to buy a bunch of candles, send $200 for a satanism medallion, cut myself, and I definitely don't want to recite some incantation mocking Christ.

well I guess your entitled to your own opinion of the bible. I think if you read what some of these sites are about though you'd agree they are way worse than the bible. As far as I know there isn't anything in the bible about summoning evil creatures and making deals with them.
