Also, the Mayans are NOT convinced by 2012 predictions, but see them as fake or exaggerated.

( I myself have heard a CD talk where an Elder of the Old Tradition down there refutes 2012- Tlakaelel.)

More comments on proper Sweat Lodge/ Spirit Lodge :

Our Singer at Toledo Sweat Lodge- his role is an important one because many Prayers are SUNG, other Prayers spoken and felt.

Our Singer is not in charge as our Conductor/ Water Pourer, but he sure knows more songs than 20 people !

Conductor of Ceremony will ask him to sing on a particular theme at various stages in Ceremony.

I had no idea it was all this horrendous in Sedona- 20 people burned ? ! 55 at risk ? !

The only thing I can imagine is that the bucket holding water was accidentally knocked over to contact the hot Stones all at once-full water load into a full Stone Pit-
although, have no fear, in a proper Lodge, only a FEW freshly hot Stones are brought inside at a time. Gosh, you can even touch them lightly and sit right next to them if you pay attention.

All is metered out nicely, Stones, Water and Heat spread out over time, with variation as needs are sensed by Conductor.

Oh ! And yes, WATER is used sparingly, added basically say up to 2 cups at a scoop, or much less, often dribbled onto stones......

And our Ojibway Lodge in Monroe ? Well, there Conductor/ Water Pourer will go TWO AND A HALF ROUNDS without placing ANY water AT ALL- just stones' heat. A little water in the Fourth Round ends it. Orange hot stones bring in a lot of heat. Water is a multiplier.

The DOOR IS OPENED FOUR TIMES TOTAL or more, opened once each at the ending of each of four rounds. And you are encouraged TO SPEAK UP and to exit if needed.

The irony is, I feel as affected by the cool Monroe Lodge as the hot Toledo Lodge, so there has to be much more than ' raw heat ' happening in a proper Lodge. A bit of a mystery why.

Setting, sitting on Mother Earth, songs, prayers, singers, visuals, s***ls, sounds, needs, emotions.

It is all about Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and drawing in the Spirits. And then Praying. Not about exalting ' us '.

NOT a manliness test- it is for women too ! AND children, AND NEWCOMERS !

The Conductor takes ALL THIS AND MORE into account, and also the Spirits guide Conductor.

Also, I am compelled to comment on these IRRESPONSIBLE WINDBAGS out there in the media- you know them- Oprah, Dr. Phil, Nancy Grace, and among them a number of Preachers- some of them exhibit near SOCIOPATHIC attitudes THEMSELVES ! They spend their entire time either building themselves up and those they approve, or they tear down others, accomplishing the same end- EGO. These have WAY TOO MUCH INFLUENCE and Power and Wealth themselves in media and our society's institutions. They actually are PERPETUATING THE INSTITUTIONAL PROBLEMS under the diabolical guise of ' SOLVING ' people's problems. I am continually ASHAMED and appalled at our public life.

And some of them push the New Age stuff and fluff. SO IGNORE THEM.

One cannot become ' Native ' American all in one day just by attending a Sweat Lodge, even a properly conducted one. Being Native American, or being any Aboriginal Tribal Person, has to do with developing an ongoing relationship with Mother Earth and the Spirits and the lessons they teach along with and relating to our Ecology ( as well as learning and preserving as much of the Old Way as we are able ). So, given modern socio- economic disconnection from Nature, it is even difficult for the actual LIVING DESCENDANTS and Cultural People who are Native American TO REALLY BE WHAT DEEP DOWN INSIDE THEY KNOW THEY WANT AND NEED TO BE. However, many experience it as a doable challenge, but difficult sometimes.

I myself have to get out in Nature often, and kayak or hike barefoot just to reconnect and remain ' sane '. Attending Lodge is part of that- do NOT allow the media HYSTERIA to dissuade you from Lodge or Native Ways.

Because the REAL ' new age ' that is coming is no fluff, but a return to the substance of the OLD.
