I think your bagging on ska too much, original ska was really creative and you can't downplay how important the brass instruments are. I play trumpet myself and the difficulty of playing something like Streetlight Manifesto's trumpet player plays is amazing

Old school hard rock and metal is great. I can't say I don't enjoy punk, but it's a bit shallow. I don't know what kind of metal is it, but Nightwish, Ka***ot, Sonata Arctica and similar really make me stop what I was doing and listen, make me forget about everyday problems and open a little door to my deep feelings. I sometimes find myself dancing by the complex rhitm and not even thinking about it.

Seriously? For one, I wasn't talking about an emo band. Animal Collective is... Well, experimental to say the least. Besides, emo is just a sub-culture, and in a technicality, it isn't even a very prominent genre of music. What you call emo, most will call post-hardcore. Take Underoath for example.

Now after listening to this, would you call them emo? If so, you happen to be wrong. Angsty yes, but Underoath is a ʍelodic metalcore band. (Or at least this album of theirs is)

This song is from a different album where the sound was classified as Post-Hardcore. I think you can agree that A: Their screamer has less a harsh tone in his voice and B: they feature a lot more of their regular singer in between short screams, unlike the first song where each singer had their parts and rarely sang in unison (Or close to it).

Now neither of these songs are emo, but the post-hardcore is particularly closer towards the genre.

Now notice this song. It's AFI. The singer looks like a fag. He also can hardly sing. There is little to no screaming in this band. They have uncreative rifts, and the drummer seems like he has problem with authority. This is emo, and notice, it's easily distinguishable by the fact that it's like somebody attempted to make grunge music, but couldn't even find anything remotely grungy to sing about and resorted to a personal experience where they felt sad.

emo is just a word. it does not really mean anything. the whole cloths and stuff is like the abrocrombie and fitch or holister stuff. vastly over priced stuff that just has their logo on it because people think it looks cool and a lot of people like it. supply and demand is all it is. everybody wants to look sexxified and will make mommy and daddy pay for it no matter the cost. i have read all the twilight books but i did before everybody knew them. they were nothing special. i finally watched the movie last week and it sucked soo badd but they are making SOO much cash with all the shirts and bags and everything. i probly fit the emo look with dark colors(thats the way the shirts just come) and tight pants(they are much more comfy hen they look and i feel safer) but i had it before it was cool and i payed for almost none of it, but what i did buy costed no more then 10 dollars. i did so people would leave me alone. im trying to find something else till this whole vampire black hair bull shit blows over because it will get old and everybody will find the next big thing to gush over.

The subculture for emo has nothing to do with that, and actually I find has the least branding of all cultures. Emo is not Twilight.
