Who here knows how to get those security tags that are on things like external hard drives and wireless routers off? If the wire on those is cut does an alarm go off? They have two black disks, one in front and one on the back and there are four wires going from the two black disks usually one wire on each side of the item.
Who knows how to get these off?

I know what you mean dude, they're always on electrical goods and stuff. The wire looks elasticy. I have no idea dude, try tampering with it. If it goes off just drop it on the floor and say you dropped it and it went off. I dunno man, they don't look like they do. Use some wirecutters and remove it.

I dug around and those security tags that are usually on electronics are called Alpha S3 Spider Wrap Tags. They need a special key to open them. If you cut the wire, then an alarm goes off. I think it works on tension. If you cut the wire then the slack will set off an alarm inside the little disk. Anyone know where to get or how to make a key?

they make it too easy. there are guides online on how to make the key or you can buy the real one for 30 bucks off the internet. how stupid are these people?

Home Depot also has these keys under the cust service desk. you'll see the spiders in bulk and the keys are right next to them.

Cant you just cut the box around it??.
or strip to ends and place a longer wire then slip it off.
Not breaking the circet thus not setting it of??

I dont know if its an electrical circuit or a tension alarm though collin.

its a circuit so replacing the tag's wire with a different wire is useless. i bought a real key and it works like a charm.

most of the items with this stuff on it is big ticket. external hard drives, dvd players and things like that. i bought the key from a website and i just go grab the item i want, open the case and take it out of the packaging. it works pretty well. and the alpha security website has video tutorials on how to remove them. morons.

As soon as you touch the key to the security tag they unlock. its so fast. the hardest part is opening the package of the product. i bought the key. its awesome. hit up the alpha security website and there are video tutorials on how to open them up. go in and take one of the spider wraps. practice opening it at home and get real good at it. after about 15 minutes you'll get the hang of it and you are good to go.

Thats the one i got it from. its 40 bucks. totally worth it. the first thing i lifted was a 1TB hard drive. you can get so much stuff with it.
one caveat however. there are 4 or 5 walmarts that i routinely visit. it sets off the EAS system in only one of them. your best bet is to get the hand key and put it in your pocket and walk in and out of the store. if it sets it off, then turn around and leave and if it doesn't, merry christmas, happy new year, happy birthday and whatever else you need gifts for.
target is a good one with this key. there are no target stores that i've been to whose alarms are triggered by this key.
AND a nice husky mini razor blade attaches very firmly to this key and makes it really convenient to carry it around in your pocket.
Have fun
