I think its perfectly fine, and in fact preferable to mix the teachings of different religious leaders (Christ, the dalai lama, buddha). God isn't a he or a she but the spiritual energy that can help us be at peace with ourselves. and while its certainly fine to have people help you become a better person, you shouldn't follow any pope, prophet, or preacher. You should work it out for yourself.

That's totally the wrong way of going about things. I myself don't believe in God, I don't follow a religion, I don't really believe in an afterlife, but I have my reasons for thinking this. However, I don't think I'm better than someone who is religious. I've told quite a few people on this site and in real life before that some people need religion. It's the only thing that keeps them going. And I think it's good when someone is really willing to devote themselves to a religion or higher power. They're willing to give themselves completely to something else, and that's hard to find in these days.

Now. To my other point. While I do agree that most atheists are know-it-all assholes, and I'm fine with people who are religious, I have to say that there's another side to all of this. Not everyone is like that. I've been told that I'm one of the very few nice atheists. And just because you're religious doesn't mean I'm okay with it. Some people use their religion to be a dick, just like atheists do. Like racism. Just because you're white doesn't mean you're a racist, and just because you're not white doesn't mean you can't be a racist. There are assholes of every religion, race, gender, age, everything.

no i didnt know them..but they did write stuff. Galelo, didnt have much fear.. he had freinds in high places. When he was tried, he pointed out two things. In the book of joshua, joshua says (i'm not going into it) and Galelo used that to back his claim. He then mentioned Capernicus(sp) who originally came up with the idea... AND who was i think it was either a bishop or cardinal of the catholic church.

Eisnstine said he didnt believe in a personal "god" but he belived there was something out there.
