i'm not really a big fan of the whole comic book thing really, maybe when i was a little kid but not now. so i didn't think i'd like the graphic novel "the watchmen" either, but my dad just bought a book which is a compilation of the comic book series (to read before the movie came out)........anyway i'm about half way through it and it's fucking amazing. the movie looks pretty true to it too, at least what i could see from the previews.

anyways it isn't your stereotypical superhero/customed hero comic book.......it's really nihilistic/pessimistic/ dark in nature......most of the "heroes" have some serious deep rooted physcological problems. i'm finding it very entertaining and insightful...

anyways i guess i'll wanna talk about it more after i finish reading it, and if you haven't read it i'd suggest doing so.....especially if you think comic books are childish and kinda gay like i did.

Go Ask Alice? haha it was alright nothing special.

But I never really read comics, I always wanted to tho. Just With my attention span I never get around to goin to a comic store. I'll drive by and be like I need to stop there once.

But that movie def looks like its gonna kick ass, I'm not sure bout the plot and stuff, but I'm talkin bout the editing and graphics that they are putting into it. I love that stuff, I want to be a one of the people who put special effects into movies, big and small.

I got this the other day actually, wanted to get an idea of the plot before the movie comes out, and I have to say it's pretty interesting. I'm only about halfway through it, but the character development has really impressed me, and the messages in it are pretty deep.

"All the accumulated filth of their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout:

'Save us!'

and I'll look down and whisper:

'No.'"

that's as close to a plot summarization as possible without giving shit away.

I just bought the novel today, it is pretty awesome. I only read up tot he part where Dr. Manhattan leaves and goes to Mars.

Anyone else think it was funny when The comedian is in Vietnam, knocks up a girl, she cuts his face and he shots her. I like what he said to Dr Manhattan, how he could of done something but he didnt cause he just doesnt relate anymore or something like that. It was very intresting.

But its def got my attention and I really want to see how the movie hold up cause last night I watch that special on G4 and thats what made me want to read the novel. They said its suppose to be pretty accurate to it, we'll see.

Yeah the books great. Comedians an asshole but an awesome one. Don't read the things between the chapters they're a waste of time. The only good one is the one about rorschach. Let us know when you finish and we'll have a discussion

Finshed. Let us Discuss.

So I hated the ending. then I thought bout it and well its just to crazy to put into words what I thought bout it.
But your right the shit between chapters was shit, I read them anyway cause they still gave insight into the characters.
Also Black Frieghter def saw that coming end coming.

I'd have to say Nite Owl a total little bitch.

I want this movie to come out already tho.

Rorschach proved his awesomeness no doubt. A. He had suspicions about veidt the entire time. B. He was so pure that he'd rather die then keep a secret that large.C. He totally pwnd those guys in prison.

Was black freighter that guy and kid that made the newspaper? I think I missed out on that.

Theonly good thing inbetween the chapters was the one about Rorschach and his whore mother.

Dr. Manhattan, " I think I might just create a galaxy". Yes I'm excited for the movie

Well it's 6:41 and this is a bitch on my iPod. Hmm I'm don't think I'm gonna go to school.

Yea Rorschach was probably the only non dissapointing character. Like his first lines "will look up and shout "Save us!" and I'll look down and whisper "No."" Then in the end he was like the hell with that world peace bullshit if its gonna be from a lie.

The prison riot, was funny cause he was like like "One-nothing. Your move." Then it was like "Two nothing, Your move" and the little guy runs away haha. Good stuff.

I knew the guy with the "The end is nigh" poster was Rorschach. And right before he gets unmasked if you look at the artwork in the background between where he's waiting around for Jacobi to drop the note off in the trash. He's sitting in the resturant, then it goes to the newsstand guy and the kid reading the comic, in the background you see him with the "The end is nigh sign" lookin throught the trash can very time someone drops something in there.

Which most of the artwork if you look at it closely theres alot of that, like parts of the storyline happening in the background, all at the same time. Like where the lesbians start fightin then the shrink and cops step in and the newstand guy and kid, right before they die.

Yea Black Freighter was the comic book the kid was reading while the New Stand guy stood around and talked. It really was like the underlining back bone of the story, like it sort of wrapped up what was goin on in the undertone of it all.

I'm going to reread it in the next couple of days. There's a video on YouTube with like 10 minutes of sneak peeks, hopefully they don't fuck it up

the dude directing it (the guy who did 300) was approached with a script which fucked over the entire story, made it good guys vs. bad guys kinda thing so he took the job, and pretty much threw that shit out and made it as true to the original as possible for a movie under 4 hours (not sure how long it will actually be). his reason for being director is essentially so that no one else can fuck up the story.....summarizing an article my dad summarized to me, i should look it up and actually read it.

but ya, based on that it sounds like it won't be fucked up, at least not too bad. (apparently the end is different)

A different ending might be cool if it's good. 253 minutes. I don't get the whole black freighter thing and that comic the one kid was reading half the book

crazyassmetalhead
March 3rd, 2009, 11:35 PM
it was kinda like an extended metaphor for how fucked up the world was, also kinda mirrored the atmosphere of the main story....and the dude that wrote it was one of the dudes on that island.

idk i thought it was cool, i've never seen something like that done before.

it was kinda hard to follow though, there's just so much shit going on. i should probably read it again as well, and look more at the art.

Yea what crazy said bout the Black Frieghter pretty much sums it up. Its an extended metaphor of the story and how the world is around that.

The story summed up tho, Just a guy who ship and everyone on it, sides himeself, gets murdered. He washes up on shore witht he bodies all around. All the while thinkin how the pirate ship of death is headed to his home, to murder his family and all. This ends up driving him crazy and deranged. Makeing a raft out of the dead bodies and all. So he just ends up goin crazy, thinkin bout how he needs to go save his family from this pirates. It ends up they never wanted his family, just him. So he was droven into being one of them. Deranged man out for blood.

But I really want to read it again and make sure I havent missed anything. Cause the director really did just pretty much make it detail for detail from the Graphic Novel to the movie. There will probably be details that will take a second time of watching it to notice. The writer of Watchmen, Dave Gibbson, even says how its so detailed he cant believe it. And all the other scenes that were added in, the director made sure it was Dave who drew the stroy board of it so as to make sure it wasnt out of place.

I really just want to see it all together. Cause I'm just sold on the editing that went into the movie, it should be pretty sick.

So went I got off here I decided to start reading it again. Noticed in teh very beginning Rorchach is walkin around with his sign, unmasked. And then Saw that thats how he knew bout The comedians death, he was overhearing the detectives talk bout it as they left the building. Alwasy fun to see something new that you didnt see the 1st time, not just for like books, but movies or anything. So yea just thought I'd point that out for CH. 1. Anyone else reading/ re reading it? or am I given away to much spoilers?

saw the movie last night.......fucking awesome. simplified and slightly different but kickass none the less.

kinda weid watching a big blue dick on the movie screen lol, but they didn't pussy out with such things which made the movie great. music was interesting, i didn't decide i liked it or not yet.....opening credits really worked at least. it didn't dissappoint.

The movie was pretty sweet but they didn't go into detail about the black freighter. It was good for the most part. I missed the blue cock though?

crazyassmetalhead
March 8th, 2009, 07:31 PM
dr. manhatten was naked most of the movie, the blue cock made many appearances...

and i heard that the whole black freighter thing will be in the director's cut on the dvd.
