Games that are great but ever body has forgotten but except for a few.
Beat em up edition

The Warriors (Ps2,Xbox) - Many of you may have never has seen this movie but i highly reconend it. Basicly Cyrus, the leader of the most powerful gang in New York City, the Gramercy Riffs, calls a midnight summit for all the area gangs. He wants to unite them but ends up being shot. A gang from coney island is blamed for the shooting and they have to fight there way home. This game follows the gangs beginings and up to the point of the shootings and there fight home. The Warriors is a pure beat-'em-up, which of course means that you'll be doing an awful lot of brawling. Each of the Warriors fights roughly the same. You have weak and strong attacks that can be put together into a reasonable number of different combos, as well as a grab move for grab attacks and throws. Jumping and ground attacks are also thrown into the mix. Different types of weaponry will fall at your feet as you knock fools silly and break apart the scenery, and there's a wide variety of items to bop with, from simple bricks and boards to shivs and bottles. No guns, though. This is old-school gang fighting at its finest, and as such, firearms simply don't enter the picture--not for you, anyway.

God Hand (Ps2) - There are few legitimately good 3D beat-'em-ups in the vein of classics like Double Dragon and Final Fight. But the team behind excellent games like Viewtiful Joe and Okami has delivered one in God Hand, a self-consciously silly, sha***essly repetitive, very challenging, fast-paced martial arts action game. God Hand isn't ambitious by any stretch, since it consists almost exclusively of you, as a cocky young fighter named Gene, thrashing all sorts of different thugs and their ridiculous masters using various over-the-top moves. The game demands fast reflexes and some well-practiced button-mashing skills, and if all this sounds like fun to you, then you'll probably love it. The game unfolds as a series of many brief levels, comprising over half a dozen different stages, each of which are sandwiched between brief, often-amusing cinematic cutscenes. Each stage has its own look, catchy music, and unique enemies, but the stages still are all roughly the same--the level design in God Hand is simply there to put you up against one roomful of enemies after another. There are no puzzles to solve, no bottomless pits to jump over, and barely any other obstacles to watch out for besides all the bad guys. Yet the game stretches on for a remarkably long time for being so simple and will probably take you at least a dozen hours to finish the first time through. While the game does feel padded out with many cookie-cutter enemy encounters, the action stays fun and interesting by providing you with an ever-growing variety of martial arts moves. There are well over a hundred different punches and kicks you can use against your foes, and as you discover more and more of them, you can freely map them to the face buttons on your controller and wind up with your own custom fighting style. You can also buy power-ups that raise your maximum health and boost your special abilities.

Yakuza 1,2 (Ps2) - The yakuza, Japan's mafia, have to be one of the last great untapped pop-culture goldmines here in the West. For all the countless movies and games we've seen romanticizing cowboys, the mob, samurai, and street gangs, for whatever reason, the Japanese take on organized crime has had relatively little exposure by comparison--even though yakuza stories can be filled with the same excitement and intensity. Thankfully, someone finally had the intestinal fortitude to make a slickly produced action adventure game focused on those honor-bound, finger-cutting, mean bastards with incredibly elaborate tattoos across their backs. Sega's new game, which was first released late last year in Japan, does a good job of depicting an appropriately over-the-top story about a former yakuza swept up in a huge conflict among warring crime families. The game also features some great-looking hand-to-hand combat sequences. But its complex storyline often stumbles, and the underlying gameplay ends up being simple and repetitive. Yakuza scores major points for its concept and can be an exciting ride.

God of War 1,2 (Ps2) - Action adventure games of the quality of God of War don't come around often. God of War takes a tale of vengeance, set against the backdrop of ancient Greek mythology, and turns it into an epic adventure filled to the brim with bloody, stylish, over-the-top combat, challenging puzzles, and highly impressive production values. So many games within the action adventure genre tend to limit their focus so heavily to either the combat or puzzle-solving side, while leaving the opposing side as little more than an afterthought, but God of War does nothing of the sort. Instead, it blends these two equally important parts extre***y well. To put it in no uncertain terms, this is one of the best action adventure games on the PlayStation 2, and it should not be missed.

God of war is the shit. If you could mix the fighting style and gameplay of god of war with a MMORPG like diablo, my god, I wouldn't even leave the house. I've wanted a game like that ever since I played god of war for the first time.

You got any idea how the god of war on psp was? Some asshole stole my psp and 1 month later I see an add for a new god of war. I was pissed. Have the psp for 2 years, don't even really play it and when it gets stole they come up with a game I finally want for it. Fuck you whoever stole my ipod and psp.

I shit you not, I have a copy of Diablo for ps1.
It doesn't work though.
On PC I played Diablo for 5 years straight, then d2 came out, then another 5 years of that.
I eventually sold my accounts for 3k$.
My computer was jacked so I don't play crap now.

Good but not very well known game, Black, on ps2.
Killer graphics for ps2, good AI, and destroyable environments :D.
But they never finished it, it needs multi-player, and more maps.
It's only a 6 hour game from beginning to end.
I'm working on extracting it through my pc so I can modify it, inject a quake wars new age engine into it for online multi-player and squad commands, then probably get the shit sued out of me by someone.

Diablo is a good game. Never really got to play the first one that much, but I still play Diablo2 quite often.

This past weekend, digital games service Steam had a 30% discount on all titles from Rockstar Games. In my article about the discount, I remarked that the discount was a slap in the face for anti-video game activist Jack Thompson, who has been a vocal opponent of the company for years. My exact words were: "It's 'Fuck Jack Thompson Weekend' at digital games platform Steam." Well, Mr. Thompson saw the article (maybe he Googles "fuck Jack Thompson" periodically) and decided to drop me a line on Saturday. The following is a transcript of the e-mail conversation that took place over the past four days:

Jack Thompson: Pete, actually it's called "Help Fuel a Murder Weekend." Glad to clear up your confusion.

Blend Games: Thanks for the clarification. I imagine the Rockstar Games PR department will stake out some sort of middle ground between our two suggestions. I may meet up with one of their reps next week and if so I'll be sure to give them your regards.

Thompson: Tell them I hope they all either repent or die immediately.

Blend: Not sure how regularly you read our site, but video games did help Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) with his dysplaxia.

Just sayin'.

Thompson:Pete, you've obviously swallowed the Big Lie about Jack Thompson. Nothing wrong with video games. All technology is always neutral. Depends what you do with it. You can electrify or incinerate a city with nuclear fission. My issue has always been the illicit sale of Mature games to kids with their parents nowhere in sight. "Fuck Jack Thompson" then, right? A recent AOL poll of nearly a quarter of a million respondents says that 80% of the American people are concerned about the violence in video games, with 56% saying they are "very concerned." It looks to me like the ESRB, which continues to facilitate the sale of Mature games to kids is saying "Fuck Parents." So I continue to push on, as the good guys continue to win this fight. Cheers.

Blend:Fair enough. I was being partly (okay, mostly) facetious about the Harry Potterthing. As I even state in the article, "Seeing as Radcliffe uses his new-found coordination to horseback ride in the nude, this revelation probably won't appease the cultural puritans who object to violence and sex in video games."

In all seriousness, statements you've made calling video games "masturbatory" and likening them to drug use didn't seem like a "technology is neutral" attitude. It's not that I've been fed a Big Lie; it's that your own statements make it hard to pin down your beliefs.

Thompson:Pete, you have no idea what I have said about these things. You actually believe everything you read on the Internet?

Blend:I'm going by direct quotes from your interview with play.tm, dated January 2007. This is from the answer to the first question:

"Cocaine is a popular 'past time,' too. That doesn't make its consumption, certainly by kids, something we ought to look away from. I don't gauge what I do based upon polls, and certainly not polls of gamers. I couldn't care less what some 14-year-old thinks is good or not good for him. I listen to scientists, health care providers, public safety officials, and I base what I do based upon their findings, not what some readers of Game Informer magazine wish was true because of how they waste their time."

And from the second page...

Interviewer: "Are there any games you have personally enjoyed playing?"

You: "No. I have so little time on this earth that I choose not to waste it in what amounts to mental masturbation."

Thompson:That's precisely what it would be for me.

And don't you have someone else to hector? I told you that the only policy issue I have is sale of Mature games to underage kids. Are you, like so many other gamers that you are intolerant of others' personal opinions about gaming? You seem to be. The vast majority of all video games are nothing but time wasters, mental stimulation for no reason other than stimlation. My generation actually thinks we ought to spend our time helping people or building something. Your generation likes to waste its time doing nothing. How sad.

Blend:Wasn't my intention to hector you - you did email me first. I was just trying to clarify this contradiction between your assertion that science is neutral (implying that video games could be good or bad) and your earlier statements in that play.tm interview that gaming was a waste of time and could be likened to drug use (presumably in terms of harmfulness or addictiveness). Your last email has clarified this point, though - you mean the vast majority of games are an addictive, waste of time but that a small amount do have merit. I am curious what games you do find productive uses of one's time but I also understand if you don't feel like continuing the dialogue.

Thompson:Technology is neutral, not science. Games are largely a waste of time. The manners of gamers that threaten to kill me indicate they need to get a life. I didn't like your Fuck Jack Thompson reference. I'm done trying to make a point that the vast majority of humans, other than gamers get-- that games waste time and the violence in mature games warps kids. Pretty simple.

Blend:I don't doubt some of the emails you get from gamers are obscene but that's not because gamers are particularly obscene - it's because that's how people behave on the Internet. To paraphrase a Penny Arcade comic: normal person + anonymity + audience = jerk. Visit any unmoderated discussion forum on politics or sports or whatever - it's as petty and mean-spirited as any forum about gaming. To give you an indication of my own lack of faith in the Internet, I actually confirmed your email address with another games site editor. I would not be altogether surprised if someone was actually going around pretending to be you. Though it's a great means of communication and a great research tool, the Internet is just plain weird at times.

Are you really surprised that you'd get emails like that, after attacking gaming (both a hobby and a vocation for millions of people) so viciously? You told me a couple days ago that Rockstar Games should "repent or die immediately." Oh, and then there was this gem: "My generation actually thinks we ought to spend our time helping people or building something. Your generation likes to waste its time doing nothing." You're not doing much to raise the level of discourse, here.

Thompson:[Sends me the link to an editorial he wrote that debuted this morning]

Blend: (responding to an excerpt from the article) Do you actually think the fact that kids can buy violent video games at Gamestop is the result of some conspiracy perpetrated by the gaming industry? Isn't it possible that the clerks who get paid $6 an hour (I assume) or their managers (who probably don't get paid much more) just don't give a crap about the rule? It's a lot easier, from their standpoint, to just sell a possibly underage kid the game they want than to argue with them while a line of customers wait.

Thompson: Conspiracy? dunno. you've heard the word negligence, right, dude? or are you so impaired by gaming drugs that you can't grasp the concept?

Blend:You state in the article that the ESA is spending "lobby" politicians, the bunny ears on the word "lobby" presumably implying that it's more than mere lobbying. You mention in the same paragraph that the ESA wants to ensure video game stores can keep going behind parents' backs to get at kids. The reason that you're putting both thoughts in the same paragraph is that you're saying the ESA is "lobbying" to get politicians to look the other way on retailers selling to underage kids. Which sounds more like an accusation of negligence, dude.

I'd ask for more information on these "gaming drugs" you speak of - they do sound delicious - but I have a faint suspicion that you were being sarcastic.

Thompson:No, the recent finding is that gamers ingest more drugs than others, and it appears you prove the point.

Blend:I think I see where this is going: no, I don't know a guy who can sell you drugs. I'd suggest checking the boardwalk or the food court of your local mall.

I'm guessing that drug use correlates with age and that young people are more likely to consume them than old people. Seeing as young people are also more likely to play video games, this recent finding you tout isn't that surprising. I imagine drug use was higher among young people during your day too. Baby Boomers probably kicked the Greatest Generation's ass in terms of drug consumption. I assume you blame rock music for that.

Thompson:Get a life, gamer dude. Seriously. You need to get into the real, not the virtual world.

Blend:We don't say the word "dude" anymore. "Bro" is now the preferred slang term. As in: "Hey bro, let's snort grandpa's meds and then play violent video games so as to improve our killing acumen."

Thompson:You can say whatever you want, and I'll say what I want. What are you, the language Nazi? Actually, "asshole" fits you perfectly. I'll use that.

Blend: Just want to make sure you're using the most up-to-date slang. Otherwise, you might just end up looking like an uninformed jackass.

On the same day the Splatterhouse trailer debuted, Namco is rumored to have pulled the unfinished project from Bottlerocket, dooming the California-based developer.

Sources through the San Diego-area dev community - but not with Bottlerocket itself - say Namco showed up Friday and took back the dev kits and all assets for Splatterhouse. Word has it Namco intends to finish it in house with the Afro Samurai team.

That's a huge slap to Bottlerocket, says one person familiar with the situation. Afro Samurai animators were sent on site to help out with the workload and Bottlerocket staff were said to have found their presence unhelpful. Now, if true, they'd get a nearly completed project and final credit.

And the kicker: this team would also be based in Carlsbad, and may even lease Bottlerocket's building. Namco recruiters, naturally, were talking to BR employees about the possibility of coming aboard.

Of course it conjures up all sorts of speculation about why Namco would make a decision that would essentially destroy a developer under contract, in order to take back an nearly-completed game and attempt to finish it in house with a set of employees who didn't work well together earlier. Sources say the game was going gold in early March.

This was Bottlerocket's only project; its last work was on Flash with the now-kerplop Brash. One source told us all employees got their last paycheck yesterday; another says the office has about three months left before it closes for good.

A message left at Bottlerocket's office was not immediately returned. One Bottlerocket employee has declined comment; we're pursuing others, plus any word from Namco officially. More developments will be posted as they are known.

Midway Files for Bankruptcy
The long-struggling publisher of Mortal Kombat filed for bankruptcy this morning, calling it a difficult but necessary decision.

The voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 effects all of its U.S. subsidiaries, but none of its international ones.

"This was a difficult but necessary decision," said Midway Chairman, President and CEO Matt Booty. "We have been focused on realigning our operations and improving our execution, and this filing will relieve the immediate pressure from our creditors and provide us time for an orderly exploration of our strategic alternatives. This Chapter 11 filing is the next logical step in an ongoing process to address our capital structure."

"Midway enters this process with strong underlying fundamentals, as evidenced by solid fourth quarter sales that exceeded expectations in spite of a challenging retail and general economic environment," Booty added. "Overall, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe sales are approaching two million units shipped, TNA iMPACT! has shipped approximately one million units, and our Game Party franchise has sold close to three million units in total."

The publisher and developer said it expects the protection will help the company conduct business as usual, but it needs permission from the court before it can move forward. Chapter 11 means they want to keep operating, chapter 7, which they didn't file, means they are liquidating.

The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a 2005 California law that prohibited the sale or rental of violent video games to minors is unconstitutional, saying that the "lawmakers failed to produce evidence that violent video games cause psychological or neurological harm to children," and that there were other ways to deal with access to violent games, including the current voluntary rating system, public campaigns to educate parents, and parental controls.

The law was never enforced because a lower court barred it from taking effect back in 2006.

Jack Thompson is going to be pissed.

If you want dead rising get it for the 360. I had it and it was fucking great ( Nothing like throwing pies at zombies) but it looks like it is going to suck on the Wii. Seriously? I'm not big on 360 (ok ok I know shoot me) but I'm a sucker for zombie games. That's the pet peeve I have with Wii.. games seem so much more simpler. It's not really ment for intense strategy/roleplay games like 360 or PS3. They're fun and a lot more... childish? Generally speaking anyway. But I'm definately going to consider it for 360 now - it is getting a little dusty.

Keep in mind I don't know a whole lot about videogames, so correct me if I'm fucking up. Lol

Let me put it like this
360: has areas where there are hundres of zombies so thick you can run on them. You have weapons from shotguns to a ditch digger( You impale the zombie through the belly and lift him up and use the spinning body on other zombies)

Wii: Less of everything, less weapons, less zombies and smaller maps. the most zombies ive seen on screen is 8

8? So soft.

I just pure suck at 360, I'm not that bad at Gears of War... but I guess thats why. Wii - 8 vs. 360's full screen of zombies.

I guess I'm going to go get it for 360 then =/
