I've been playing a lot of stuff off the London Calling album, by The Clash.
And i've been getting back into jamming out Megadeth stuff. And a few B52's tunes.

To practise your finger-picking, check out Bron-Yr-Aur by Led Zeppelin. Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp has been mentioned, but this is a different peice.

Isnt In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida like an 18 minute song about nothing? i think i listened to like 4 minutes of it on VH1 or something and almost blew my brains out. Hippies. :(

If you want to really practice on your fingerpicking, try White Summer by Yardbirds/Led Zeppelin, that song is hard as hell. And don't let In-a-Gadda-Da-Dida scare you, the main riff is really easy and most of the other guitar work is kinda spread out during most of the song.

Ive been playing acoustic lately like Babe I'm gonna leave you and over the hills and far away. Two great acoustic songs. Lamb of god is my favorite for electric cause of the heavy yet beautiful riffs. Ashes of the wake+Laid to rest are my favorite to play. Chiodos Baby you wouldnt last a minute on the creek is fun and easy to play. Good Luck.
Guitar is just another long work in progress for me

Never learn a metal version of an original song. Just because its an "update" of something not as popular as it was many years ago, doesn't mean its better. Songs like In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida were ruined because of this.

I like some of the remakes of songs. Like Gob's version of "Paint it Black." I like it a LOT more than the original. The same goes with Dope's version of "You Spin Me Right Round." Also better, IMO. However, Bullet for My Valentine (one of my favorite bands) does a version of "Crazy Train" and it's a good version, but definitely not as good as the original is.
Also, to Cake: Try to learn "Silent Lucidity" by Queenscryche. My dad was all about drumming, but he said that that song was the first one he learned to play on guitar.
