oneof my friend's parents rebooted her comuter, which had windows xp onit, and her profile was passworded. she has all the files on her computerstill, they were backups, but she cant access them. it says she does not have the authority to open them. this goes for her father's aswell but none of the others (they were not passworded). it wont let her into a point to use a password or do anything. it just denies her. i was wondering if anyone could helpher with this problem.

if i understand, you want to be able to access them on her side of the computer?

easiest way is to log in as an administrator, (that's where the safe mode thingy comes in), right click on the files that you want to be able to get into, go to properties, and from there you have to find the part that says who can view the files and change it to everyone.....i would say exactly where, but im not on windows, and dont feel like switching to the windows computer to find out.....

if it doesnt work, and she has a flash drive, or something of the like, get a linux live cd, and access the files with the linux live cd and copy them over to the flash drive.....then right click on the files and click properties, then find the part labelled permissions, then make sure every check box is checked.....you now have a bunch of files that are exactly what was on her computer, but are accessable by anyone

it doesnt have to be a flash drive, just anything that you can write the files to, but still run the live cd......

i'd suggest knoppix......

my computer's hard drive is always detected by my live cd's....if her's isnt, it's not hard to make it detect it....consult google if need be.....

...i personally think the first way should be all you need.......if it isnt, try the second, whatever you cant get to work, just post here.....
