We live in a world were all things are made up of an infinitesimally small number of little bits that we have arbitrary clumped into many overlapping subsets and matched back to other patterns and other subsets, in order to form descriptive language to communicate these pieces and how they interact.

How are you going to try to complicate this organization with the concept that there is a supreme being that orchestrated this whole shenanigan?

I don't read fairy tales and I don't believe in ghosts.

edit: I decided there was no God when I was about 9, when I asked my grandmother where God was. She said that God really wasn't in any one place, and that you couldn't see God. God's an electron or something? No. Shit, what if God was an electron or some subatomic particle (not the God particle that the LHC was supposed to find). That'd be trippy.

or original works meaning everything the roman empire decided should be in the bible?

I'd believe 1/2 or less of what should be in the bible is in there. Things have remained pretty much the same in regards to the second though.

i stopped believing when i heard about science, and how its goal is to explain stuff not just say o god did it.

If that's all i thought religion was i'd have the same opinion as you. However, I think asking why along with how is far more intelligent a thing to do. Any dipshit with a science book can figure out how, its the why that seems the difficult part.

Are you referring to organized religion?

I despise organized religion...

catholicism, mormonism, fucktardism, they all just seek to control people.

Don't join an 'ism' join the spiritual plane, you'll find everything comes together there. Even more so than modern societies 'science'.

I find agnosticism too indifferent though. I mean i acknowledge the spiritual I don't say "well there might be or there might not but I don't care".

It basically sounds like a open minded atheist to me.

edit*
I just copied this from my thread on Tool but I think it applies to this situation

Intro to one of Tool's songs:

"Think for yourself
Question authority

Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening,
terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in
this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the
religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by
giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their
view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and
learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness"

you guys are both wrong.. jesus and his apostle did not decide what was in the bible. well in a way jesus did.. neither did the roman empire.. there was a group of people called the Cannonites (spelled with a c or k i forget) there are two books.. the old testament.. new testament and THE APOCRYPHA(which is all the stuff the cannonites didnt think was inspired by god... the cannonites were basically jewish priests..

The Nicaean creed was a joke, half of Christianity believed in regular ol god and then the Romans had to mess it up and decide the trinity made more sense.

@cstrikehero

Ya the Romans did kill Christ, they also killed christians for no other reason than that they were christian. Once they saw that christ's word was spreading and no amount of killing was going to stop it, they started using it as the state religion. Then when people started arguing trinitarianism vs arianism (based on the words of Arius not on an arian race) they thought it would be a good idea to step in and force people to think a certain way.

One of the reasons Christianity is as messed up as it is now is because of the church's councils. It's almost like they didn't like the actual words of Christ so they had to come up with 'interpretations' and forced everyone to follow them.

cstrikehero
January 18th, 2009, 10:16 AM
now i can somewhat agree with freetibet.. but the church now is different.. the church was messed up back in the 1500s. Catholic was the main religion. the catholic church got corrupted, was selling salvation... then Martin Luther nailed the 95 theses on the door of a catholic church.. and that's what started the Protestant reformation.. when people actually got a hold of the real truth not an interpretation and started to follow it. Now the baptists, Mennonites, Methodists.. etc are all groups who broke away from Catholicism..

The corruption in chruches comes from the sin of PEOPLE not church values.. not in what the bible says. hate the sin not the person. I have no problem with gays, just what they do

deathlord888

cstrikehero
January 18th, 2009, 02:10 PM
your still nailing me. a Mennonite for what Catholics do.. idc what they do its between them and god.. if they want to go to hell its their problem..

as far as raping little boys goes.. its wrong to rape anyone.. In fact its wrong to have sex with anyone who is the same gender as you and whom you are not married to.. see Leviticus 18. No im not saying the church is OK now.. im just saying its different.. the Catholics have no control over what other denominations are doing... now most denominations have the same beliefs as Catholics, although i think Catholicism is the only one who prays someone into heaven (which dosent work by the way)

And if you want to know what will happen to you if you don't follow Gods laws, read lev 20.

(NO GOD-->) Hey, if your a christian you have nothing to worry about.. if you are wrong, then you will turn into dirt when you die.. who cares.. same for if you aren't

(GOD-->) now, if you not a christian and you die, you will spend an eternity in Hell with demons who hate everything about you.. hell will not be physical punishment, but mental.. and you will have to endure it forever.. It will be like being flogged and never being able to just die. you will endure it.. the human mind is not able to grasp the idea of a never ending eternity... in heaver or hell.

if you are a christian however, you will spend eternity in heaven which is basically paradise beyond what you can ever imagine

OK, the bible is the book of god, right? Wrong. The bible is a book that has been changed over the course of 4000+ years to suit whomever was carrying these stories. The bible was not made into one book until the mid 1st millennium by the Romans. For 2500 years and sooner, the words of the bible had been carried mainly by word. Have you ever played the game telephone? Picture that, but you know how easy it is to miss a word? Now picture playing 2500 years of telephone. What about the words that were written down? Many of these lost at least 3/4 of their true meanings through the various translations from Hebrew to Latin to Arabic to etc. And many of these were discarded for the fact that many people disagree. I'm making this up? That might be what you're thinking. OK, then explain this. The bible says that the first woman on earth, the first woman to be with Adam, was Eve. This is not true. The first woman on earth (at least according to these crack pot scriptures) was Lilith. Why was Lilith excluded? Because Roman Emperor Constantine didn't like that in the scriptures, Adam and Lilith were equal. Man and Woman with equal status? Preposterous.

Do you have any evidence to support your claim?

And obviously the bible has been translated into many different languages, but the original Greek was either never translated or maybe translated once. So when people like William Tyndale translated the bible, they did so from the original Greek.

Who is in charge of this forum, they should merge these two threads. Yes, I have evidence, you know the same evidence Christians site as the proof that the bible wasn't written in the 16th century and was actually written during the time of the supposed "jesus". The evidence of course are the dead sea scrolls which were saved from the library of alexandria by jewish scholars, well, the same jewish scholars preserved these scriptures. Also, it is historic fact that the first Roman Emperor Constantine held a certain period of time, (I think it was 30 day), meeting in which various passages of the now single bible were decided, edited, and deleted or kept.

I personally don't believe in any religion. I don't consider myself an atheist, or anything for that matter. If there is a God (or any supreme being), that's great! If there isn't, that's great too. Right now if you would ask me if there is a God, I would say no.
But I wasn't brought up on any religion. Some people are sure there is a God, and I respect their opinions.

around third grade.
i had read the entire king james bible twice cover to cover.
analized it. took tests on it. discussed it.

the more i analized it, the more i concluded it was nothing more than a good story book. the pastor of the school/church would always preach about the evils of the world. like modern music. and pokemon. and other satanic things. and i was a nine year old kid saying "what the fuck. that doesn't make any sense. it contradicts what you keep forcing me to read"

i was an agnostic until November 2008. i beleived there was a higher being, but not in any specific religion. and then my life fell apart and i gave up all hope and faith.
