Ok recently I returned my old crossbow due to mechanical fault with the auto safety and now I have $235 store credit.
And basically I want a new one except now I can do my research on the one I will purchase.
There is a compound bow and a crossbow with have both caught my eye so yea here are the stats.

I'm looking for really the best out of these two and I'm not what you'd call smart on the topic, the qualities I'm looking for is distance, power and speed.
Bow or crossbow it doesn't bother me.
Thank you

i thought you need a license for a crossbow. and 150 lb pull is kinda pain
that bow looks bad ass tho, are you using it for hunting or target shooting? hunting i would take the crossbow because it will have more power, but targets the bow because it is much faster

Nope in NewZealand you just got to be 18 haha or 16 if you have your gun license.
I'll be using it more target practice but I still will be going out hunting goats aye
or really anything til I can get a hunting partner for deer.
Loading time isn't an issue neither is time between shots. I meant speed of the projectile.

My long bow is 380....

380 what? Cause I'm pretty sure thats a lie.
55lbs for a compound is ok from what I've heard because it has longer limbs or something like that.

1st bow is the one that's over 300lbs. progressive draw.
It's about 130 years old, solid piece of aged yew heartwood with carved ivory tips.
The bitch will shoot through cinder blocks.
Broken long bow is a 30 layer mahogany/hickory composite.
Its from the 1920's, olympic bow.
My father broke it last year trying to string it, a piece that flew off shattered his foot through his boots.
It was about 120+ non progressive.
Recurve is a 50lb fiberglass Bear.
Nothin Special.

Max champ bows are 280 at arrow head.
Long bows are progressive, every inch adds 5-10 pounds.
I shoot it with a standard arrow, about 110 pounds.
I've had someone pull the bitch back 5 feet with a palm stem arrow.
The 850 one has a pully system that looks like something out of star trek.
It rest at 120.
Has two foot pads for drawing.

Worldwide the average power for bows of all designs is about 220 newtons (50 pounds) at 70 cm (28 inches) of draw which is suitable for most hunting applications. Bows for warfare tend to be much more powerful, with the most powerful bows being the English longbow and the African elephant bow, both of which topped the 900 N (200-pound) at 80 cm (32 inches) mark. Many men in medieval England were capable of shooting bows from 670–900 N (150–200 pounds)
Deformed skeletons of archers have been studied, revealing spur like growths on their bones where the over-developed muscles pulled. However, these men did train daily from a very young age and their lives depended on being able to use such powerful bows. There are modern day examples of men who are quite capable of shooting these bows so, doing so is possible.
Mark Stretton currently holds the world record for shooting a 900 N (200 pound) longbow.

Thats what the 850 is.

The 850 shoots babies into orbit.
Many men in medieval England were capable of shooting bows from 670–900 N (150–200 pounds)
Full draw on my long bow is over 300lb.
And only one person I know has pulled it that far.
And his arms are bigger than my thighs.

My longbow will shoot straight through 1/8 steel plate.
And I've had friends shoot targets dead on over 300 yards.
I've managed a deer target at 100.

Which one would you choose?

Definitely the Compound.
More sport.
If you want a crossbow you might as well go buy a rifle.

I was looking for more stats on the Crossbow and I'm getting two different stats and there is the same bow different brand name and vis versa and its confusing me, cause I wanted the fps on it.
The only difference in the two is string length one is 17.5 and one is 31.

i'd go crossbow for accuracy, penetration, and its easier on your arms. If your serious about bow hunting take the compound.
On a side note, the largest longbow is the welsh longbow, and its about as big as a balista.

Go for the crossbow.
A six year old could pull back the 55lbs prolly lmao.
I think here the minimum for hunting deer with an arrow projectile is 55lbs.
You wont be happy with the shot you get with a 55lb compared to the 150lb loud, accurate crossbow..
Plus, i like the crossbow sights better than compound bows.
I shot a compound for a couple of years.
Now i prefer rifles :P
But i've got a split arrow hanging above my bed, I split it from 40 yds. at a range.

but the compound bow even at its 55lb draw weight still has more killing forces than a military grade 5.56mm and in most states you have to be a lagitamate criple to use a crossbow for any sort of sport. go for the compound. you can always get the draw weight ajusted to your liking some where. i did. i took mine to scheles and they did it for me. it is well worth it though to go with either. but i would go for compound. but if you are looking at trying bow fishig i would go with the crossbow. they just work better for that sort of stuff. have fun with your decision.

but if you know how to use your compound bow right you will be more accurate with that than the crossbow. besides the compound will kill your game faster. :D

I would go with the compound myself, you have more control over it during the shot, less mechanics.

Im pretty biased i guess when it comes to this topid though.
Regardless of all other differences, crossbow will always be supre***y badass.
